Chapter 14: A ✨Special✨ Dimension

At Tails' workshop, Sonic, Gadget and Tails are talking while Rookie recovers. "Glad she decided to make a move. Maybe that might happen to you bro." Sonic nudged Tails' shoulder. "Don't bring me into this!" Tails got flustered. "Tails has a crush on someone? You gotta tell me Sonic!" Gadget said. "I don't!" Tails shouts. His tails fluffed and straightened. Sonic chuckled. "Don't be shy to admit it Tails." "Admit what." Tails retorted. Rookie wakes up and sits up on the workbench. "I just had the weirdest dream. Sonic and Shadow were getting married on a cliff before Eggman attacked us with the Biolizard. It was the strangest dream I've ever had." "Well dreams are just a combination of memories and the imagination." Tails said. "Leave that imagination for the Ruby alright Giz." Gadget commented. "Maybe cut out the Shadow part." Sonic said. "Speaking of the Phantom Ruby, now that you're awake we should run some tests now." Tails said. Gadget looked displeased. "Oh relax, it's just a few scans for now." Tails pulls out a scanner and scans Rookie.
"Huh that's weird." "What's wrong Tails?" Rookie asked. "I tried to scan for any sign of the Phantom Ruby but nothing's coming up. I may have to adjust it since you had a prototype." Tails walked to his storage room. Gadget looked around for something. "Hey where did my wispon go?" He asked. "Oh those? I'm going to adjust that old eggtech and make them better for you two." Tails said in the other room. "Let's hope you get them done before we leave." Gadget said. Sonic sat on the workbench. Tails came back with a bunch of robo parts and the two wispons. He put them all right next to Sonic. "Yeesh. I've seen terribly made Eggtech but this is just sad. I mean look at that grappling hook!" "I added that." Rookie said. "Oh! I mean you've really made.. something!" Sonic opened the wispon and two wisps flew out of them. "Congratulations you two! You're getting your retirement early!" The wisps flew out of the workshop. "What happened to the your original grappling hook?" Gadget asks Rookie. "SNT took it." Tails stood up from his chair. "I've tuned the scanner so it should detect more types of prototype energy." Tails scanned Rookie again.
"There we go! Seems you do have remanence of a prototype. I'm surprised it lingered for this long." "I'm fine with it staying. Makes me feel useful." Gadget frowned at that comment. "So what are you gonna test now Tails?" Rookie asked. "Well before I test anything I need to have that paper we lost. Otherwise I won't be able to test anything." "Oh cmon! You got a big brain in there. I'm sure you don't need some piece of paper." Sonic pokes Tails' head. Tails pushed Sonic's hand away. "I haven't studied much of the Phantom Ruby prototypes besides the one Infinite has. Prototypes of anything can vary massively!" "Well in that case I'll get it for you." Sonic sped off before Tails could answer. "I guess while we wait I can work on your wispons." Tails started to work on them. "I'll be right back." Rookie left the area.
When he came back into the room he saw Gadget toying around with his new wispon. "Wow that was fast!" "It wasn't hard. Just a few adjustments to the original tech." Rookie grabbed his new wispon. "You won't need a wisp to use it anymore, but you can still ask one to enhance them if you like." Tails said. "What's a wisp?" Tails asked. Rookie got confused. Tails didn't open his mouth. "Oh they're aliens that were kidnapped by Eggman. After we saved them, some decided to stay instead of going home." Tails replied to himself. Rookie finally noticed that Tails was talking to his other dimension counterpart. There was a small tv that was now on the workbench. "Oh you must be Gizmo. It's very hard to see a difference between you and your brother." Tails said. "Is your name also Miles Prower?" Gadget asked him. "Of course." "Well there goes my way to tell you apart." The two Tails started to think of how to distinguish themselves. "For now you can just call him Tails and me Miles." The Tails in the workshop said. Sonic dashed into the room. "Sorry bud, I've looked everywhere but I can't find the paper you were talking about." Sonic said to Miles. Sonic then looked at the tv. "What's this? Some old video of yourself?" "Hi other dimension Sonic!" Tails waved. "Oh hey! How's my little bro from the other Dimension doing?" "I'm doing great! I actually just saw you a couple of hours ago. Well the other you. This is going to get confusing fast." "As if distinguishing between these two wasn't hard enough." Sonic pointed to Rookie and Gadget. "Alright, I've sent the information about the Phantom Ruby. You should be able to build a scanner to see if SNT has any traces of the Ruby on her. Guess we should leave you to do that then." Miles said. "Bye everybody!" Tails waved. "See you later Tails." Sonic said. Everyone else waved. Miles turned off the tv. "We should head back home now." Gadget told Rookie. The twins waved and headed out. "It's already night?" Rookie questioned. "You were out cold for a long time." Gadget told him. Gadget used his new Wispons to head home. Rookie tried to grapple to a nearby tree. "You don't have a grappling hook anymore Giz." Gadget hovered back to him. "Just let me borrow yours." Gadget took off his wristband that had a grappling hook and handed it to Rookie. The twins went home.
Rookie entered his house and was relieved that there were no more surprise visitors. "Hey Gadget. Wanna to play a game of pool?" "Sure! I didn't rebuild the basement for nothing." They headed downstairs and started to play. "So when did you figure out you had the Phantom Ruby's powers?" "It was while I was reconstructing the last building I was assigned. Infinite suddenly showed up and started harassing me." Gadget got angry. "Infinite. Why can't he leave you alone! What have you ever done to him!?" "I did help SNT beat him up during the war." Rookie shrugged. "But you were.. kind of dead during that time." "I wasn't dead!" "You were technically a ghost right?" Rookie sighed. He accidentally missed the ball he wanted to hit. He readjusted himself. "All I know is that me having the Phantom Ruby's powers makes him furious." "Someone's jealous. You think SNT has them to?" "She has to. She was around the prototype just as much as I was." Gadget knocked one of Rookie's pool ball into a hole. "Thanks for that Gadget." "That was on purpose." "Sure it was." "No seriously! It was!"
