A/N

IT'S BEEN OVER A MONTH IM SO SORRY

I don't have an excuse.

My bad honestly lol.

Forwarning, I'm trying to finish writing my actual book (Land of Armonia, book3) WHICH IS THE LAST BOOK IN MY PUBLISHED SERIES WOOT WOOT. My goal is to finish it this month (August 2024) BUT, idk. I've gotten 27 chapters done and it's been a year since I started it so at this rate I'm kinda struggling. SO, not definitely but I MIGHT be distracted with that. But once its over its OVER OVER. And then WE CAN CELEBRATE. I will party in my head. AND THEN IM DONE. DONE WITH LAND OF ARMONIA FOREVER (except I'll have to edit book 3 for a year until I publish it but shut up).

IM EXCITED ABOUT MY NEXT PROJECT BUT ANYWAYS, I'M STILL MASS PRODUCING MIRACLE BOX CHAPTERS FOR YALL AT MY NOW SLOW ASS PACE.

A bead of sweat trickled down the back of Marc's neck as he anxiously looked out the window of the school courtyard where he could see the underclassmen playing PE. He could hear the sound of the heater buzzing in the back of the class and he was painfully aware of all the slight giggles coming from the front of the class. It smelled musty in the science room and the white walls were closing in on him. It was as if ever since he put that thumb ring on, all his senses were on high alert.

"Times up, pass your quizzes to the front," Ms. Mendelev barked to the students. Marc had barely scratched a handful of answers together–his quiz was nowhere near complete. Desperate for any chance of a grade, he silently and quickly tried to find all the multiple choice questions so he could circle C for all of them. It didn't appear Ms. Mendelev had noticed this, but Ivan–who sat next to Marc–certainly had. He shamefully passed his test forward, a rock forming in his gut as he did so.

He could feel the horrible presence of Orikko in his backpack. She'd been barking at him all week to pretend like she didn't exist, never use the power of the ring, never claim her magic, and just ignore her. But that was hard to do when with every passing minute he could feel the power of the ring tighten around him, sharpening his senses so terribly he wanted to scream. The only relief he could think of would be to claim that power, but Orikko would actually kill him if he even thought about trying.

Marc wanted to throw up.

"How'd you do on the quiz?" a hopeful Nathaniel asked as the students left the class for their next period.

Marc looked at him glumly.

"I feel ill."

"Oh no! What's wrong?"

"I screwed that quiz up for sure." Marc said and looked down with shame, "I'd hardly even started it by the time we were supposed to finish."

"...That's not the first time this week. Are you alright?" Nathaniel asked with some concern.

"I don't know," Marc groaned, "and we have pre calc next, how will I survive?"

"What if we... skipped it?"

"You're joking?" Marc asked, looking at Nathaniel stunned. Both boys were tall but Marc was just slightly taller. Still, they were practically eye level and Nathaniel was leaning a little too close to Marc for it to be normal.

"You look like you're about to lose it," Nathaniel said with a slight reassuring smile, "Maybe we should step away?"

"We?"

"Better with company!"

This got a laugh out of Marc. "No, no, you're joking."

"I'm not!" Nathaniel exclaimed, "I don't wanna go to pre calc either. It's boring! And we just have our elective period after that, we should just go home early."
