As soon as she jumped forward she saw Chat Noir get thrown to the ground with so much force that a man hole in the road popped open. The Bubbler was going to capture him. She took a few running steps and jumped into the sky again. Then a horrible thought struck her.
'What if people don't like me as a superhero because I'm overweight?'
'Damn it Alya, now's not the time.'
She spun in the air, nearing the Bubbler, and stretched out her good leg, striking him across the face and bringing him to the ground.
"That's right! I am here!" Alya cackled, pinning the Bubbler against the road. "Wait, that's what All Might says... I need a better line... something... original?"
"Get off me!" the Bubbler screeched. Alya didn't do it on purpose but she was aware of his biggest fear. So it wasn't an ability she could just switch on and off. She hoped it wouldn't prove to be a curse.
"Woah! Who are you?!" Chat Noir leapt to his feat. She could sense his fears too. Though his were... more complicated than Tikki's or the Bubbler, who was just afraid of being hated. His was... very hard to understand. It was a fear of neglect, fear of shame, a fear of being alone, of being trapped. And Alya already knew too much. Chat Noir was afraid he wasn't good enough for someone very close to him–his father. He feared abuse.
Alya couldn't help but stare up at him as all those feelings were swarming her head. It was as though she could feel his fear too. It certainly wasn't what she expected to find out on her first day officially meeting him. And it felt wrong to know all this without his consent.
"Now is not the time for staring, though I know I'm very pretty to look at," Chat Noir teased. The Bubbler kicked Alya off of him, sending her across the street.
"Who do you think you are, newbie!?" the Bubbler seethed with rage.
"Rena Rouge!" she replied, getting back on her feet and whipping her flute out to her side like a sword.
"Cool name, red fox!" Chat Noir grinned.
"I could say the same for you, black cat." Rena Rouge felt confident and poised. "Ladybug and Carapace are unable to help which is why I am here!"
"Dang- we really gotta be careful about damage control then," Chat Noir said, wary of the Bubbler who was approaching him steadily.
"Yeah, it'll be rough," Rena said. A concern was itching at her but she couldn't figure out what it was. Something was off. There was something she was missing.
"I hate furries!" The Bubbler screeched.
"Rude! I think my hoodie is cute!" Rena grinned.
"And I'm quite bedazzling in my cat ears," Chat Noir said with a wink. The Bubbler twisted his face in rage and jabbed at Chat with his bubble wand. Chat moved to the side and caught one of the wand's rings with his staff. The Bubbler tried yanking it away but Chat Noir had a very strong grip.
"Stupid cat boy!" The Bubbler exclaimed furiously.
"Hey, I'm just playing my part in damage prevention since Carapace isn't here. I'm doing my job," Chat Noir said with a very smug look on his face.
"OH I WONDER WHY CARAPACE ISN'T HERE!" The Bubbler said with a crazed look across his face. He kicked Chat's staff away and gained control of his wand again. He held it behind him like a sword, ready to strike. His eyes narrowed but his lips were spread in the wildest grin Rena had ever seen on a person.
"Well-" Chat began to say but got interrupted.
"DOES THIS MAKE ME A HERO TURNED ROGUE?!" The Bubbler laughed manically.
