🎵Pokémon: Indigo League - Theme Song🎵
Episode starts and the scene opens in Pallet Town at Professor Oak's lab, where the Professor is having a cup of tea.
Prof. Oak: Ah. Nothing like a cup of tea to start off the day.
Professor Oak chuckles. Soon, Professor Oak's video phone rings, which Ashley's Krabby brings to him.
Prof. Oak: Oh. Thanks a lot, Krabby.
Turns out that it's Ashley calling.
Ashley: Professor, good morning.
Prof. Oak: Good morning, Ashley. I was just wondering when you might be calling. You have some good news?
Ashley: I sure do! (reveals her badges) Look at this! Pretty impressive, huh? I've already earned four badges!
Prof. Oak: Only four badges?
Ashley falls over in disbelief at Professor Oak's response.
Prof. Oak: Ashley? Are you still there? I just found out this morning that Jack and John have earned five badges each, including Gary. They all passed through Celadon City, too.
Ashley gets up.
Ashley: Oh, those guys!
Prof. Oak: You better hurry up, Ashley. You both don't want to fall further behind those three. And Gary has already captured thirty new Pokémon.
Ashley: Thirty Pokémon?
Prof. Oak: What about you? What's going on? I haven't gotten any Pokémon from you in a while. (Krabby enters the picture) Not since the day you sent me Krabby, here.
Ashley: Krabby! How ya doing?
Prof. Oak: We've become very good friends. We especially enjoy teatime, and writing poetry. And some of it's not that bad, either. Every day it's cake and tea, just my Pokémon and me. Like it?
Ashley: Uh, I don't know very much about poetry.
Prof. Oak: Now, listen, Ashley, writing poetry is a lot like Pokémon training. I can't write a good poem without rhymes. And you can't be a good trainer without catching more Pokémon. Have to go now. The tea's getting cold.
The video call ends as Ashley shrugs. The scene transitions to Brock and Misty having a snack or lunch break when Ashley comes in.
Misty: You look kinda down, Ashley.
Ashley: Huh?
Misty: Have a rice cake or a donut, that always cheers me up.
Jigglypuff: Jiggly Jiggly!
Brock: These donuts are great! Jelly-filled are my favorite! Nothing beats a jelly-filled donut!
Ashley: I just heard Gary, Jack, and John all have five badges.
Misty: I get it. She's upset because she's falling behind.
Jigglypuff: Jiggly Jig.
Ashley: The next town we come to is Celadon City. Isn't there supposed to be a gym there?
Brock: There sure is. All we gotta do is follow this road. Celadon City is only a day's walk from here. Even less if we keep up a fast pace.
Ashley sighs.
Narrator: Can Ashley catch up with her rivals? Or will she be left in the dust?
Ashley: There' no way those guys are gonna win!
