The door swings open, arms embracing the trembling body of the girl as hands go softly through her hair. It is a comfort all children of the yellow section know, a loving parent calming them down.

"Oh, my darling," Penelope kisses Thana's head once before wiping some of her daughter's tears away, "oh, my darling Thana."

The peacekeepers withholding the entire Jardin family from going in, let the parents go in first. Verill and Penelope crying their own tears with Thana, knowing nothing could be done, their daughter to be lost forever. There is no certainty she will make it out, the kindness in their daughter's heart so big, they doubt she can kill to survive.

"I wish you could still fit on my hip, in my arms," the mother holds Thana's head with both hands, "so you could be safe from this, safe from the Capitol."

"We have never been safe mama," the girl falling in her mother's embrace once more, her father hugging both women. "I love you two so much." She sniffs, searching for more comfort in her parents' arms.

"Please take this with you, to remember us," Verrill hands her the old pocket watch that once belonged to Grandma Jardin. "To know when the sun rises."

"Because as the sun we always rise," Thana mutters, "keep this for me," she undoes the necklace she got when she was born with the stage the rapeseed was in at her birth engraved in wood. Penelope and Verrill take it, hugging their daughter one last time, the parents already mourning the girl for who she was and is.

Once the door opens a second time, a few minutes after Verrill and Penelope are forced to leave their daughter, Zélie and Nico who rush towards their trembling sister. Redness around all three their eyes.

"Don't cry for me," Thana's voice cracks midsentence, "it was bound to happen to one of us." The other two shake their head.

"No, no Thana," Zélie hugs her younger sister, "we were supposed to all age out and grow old together."

"We will still grow old together, yes?" Nico's voice is soft as he nears his older sisters.

"Of course," Thana tries to convince the three of them, nodding her head, "I will not abandon our family."

"You could never Thai," Zélie smiles sadly, "not even in death," she whispers the last part, "we will always love you."

Nico hugs his sister next, the awkwardness of their normal hugs absent as he pours all his love in this last touch of his sister, "fight for us, okay?"
