“Elyon you forgot to put shoes on.” Cassidy said holding back a grin as I dashed about the now empty changing room to get my gym kit on. I am now fifteen minutes late and putting on my stupid gym kit isn’t helping the situation.
I looked down at my stripy socks with a scowl. Right. I need shoes before I go running. Cassidy throws me my trainers and I slip them on as quickly as possible, not bothering to tie the laces; I just tucked them into the sides of the shoes and finally I was done.
“C’mon we better go.” I said dread entering my voice. Cassidy nodded grimly no longer smiling; we both knew what awaited us now.
Our gym teacher is Miss Halls: a big, burly bag of scaryness. She had the most upper lip hair I have ever seen on a woman and muscles that rivalled pro-wrestlers in bulk. To put it simply she scared the shit out of me more than Freddie Kruger.
I actually felt bad for asking Cassidy to wait behind with me but I couldn’t face this woman, if that what she really is, alone. I was almost tearful when she said she would wait with me.
“So you two finally decided to show your face’s in my class?” The deep unnatural voice of Miss Halls growled from the starting track. In the distance I could see people running around the track. I held back a groan. I hate running.
“Sorry ma’am.” I said trying to keep my eyes facing hers and not drop to the ground like I so wanted to. Cassidy quickly copied my sentiments. Even her eyes were scary. The cruel smile I got in return sent my stomach into turmoil.
“I hear you already have detention for the rest of the semester Miss Baker. So I think I’ll keep from adding to that tally.” My eyes widen, was she being nice? I think Cassidy actually gasped a little. It really was that surprising.
“So I think an extra three laps will suffice.” I take it back. This woman is the epitome of the word ‘evil’. She knows I can’t run for the sake of me. My jaw dropped to the floor and I already felt my legs turn to jelly. I was going to die. I had to do five laps! Five fricken laps!
“And you Cassidy can choose either.” What the hell? First off she called me ‘Miss Baker’ and Cassidy by her first name. Secondly she gets to choose? I would gladly take some more detentions!
Cassidy looks at me out of the corner of her eyes; trying to see what would make me happy I think. I sighed and shook my head, this was my fault anyway Cassidy shouldn’t have to suffer because of that. She seemed to visibly relax at the thought of not having to run five laps. I’m glad someone could.
“I’ll take the detention ma’am, please?” Cassidy said her voice low and shameful. Miss Halls smiled widely showing her crooked and yellow teeth. She really takes pleasure in other peoples pains doesn’t she?
“Looks like you will be running alone today Miss Baker.” I hate this woman. She knows I can’t run like half the people that go to this stupid school.
I didn’t answer as I knew I wasn’t supposed to, but trust me it was so hard to stop myself from giving her a nice little ‘Elyon’ reply. She then sent us off to catch up with everyone else, like that was ever going to happen for me; the only way I will meet up with people is if they pass me on their way around again.
It was on my second lap, I was alone since I told Cassidy to just to finish her own laps, when Jaden and Noah pulled up at both of my sides. Jaden on my right and Noah on my left, I wasn’t sure if I was happy or disappointed that they had their shirts on today.
“Hello there Little E,” Noah said in a very overly pleasant way that etched a scowl onto my face instantly.
“Yeah hi.” I replied in a dead voice still trying to keep up my slow pace of running.
