The waiting room had grown quieter, the tension replaced by a cautious optimism as the team waited for news. The minutes ticked by slowly, each one feeling like an eternity. Christopher and Trey were seated together, their exhaustion evident but tempered by the relief of having secured the rare blood type. Dré paced occasionally, glancing at the clock and then back at the door.
Finally, the door to the waiting room opened, and the same doctor who had briefed them earlier stepped inside, looking more relaxed than before.
Is he okay? Christopher’s voice was barely a whisper, his eyes locked on the doctor.
The doctor smiled slightly, his expression reflecting the strain of a long day but also the satisfaction of a successful operation. Trekker made it through the surgery. We managed to stabilize him, and the blood was a perfect match. He’s in recovery now.
A wave of relief washed over the room. Dré sank into a chair, his face a mixture of fatigue and profound relief. Trey let out a deep breath, finally allowing himself to relax.
He’s not out of the woods yet, the doctor continued, but he’s responding well to the treatment. We’ll keep him under close observation for the next few days to ensure there are no complications. The next 24 hours will be critical, but the signs are positive The doctor said.
Teresa stood, moving closer to the doctor. Can we see him? She asked.
Not yet, the doctor said gently. He’s still groggy from the anesthesia and needs to rest. We’ll let you know as soon as he’s awake and stable enough for visitors he said.
They nodded, understanding the need for caution. They thanked the doctor and watched as he left the room, the weight of the situation now feeling a bit lighter.
As the door closed behind him, Christopher and Trey sat down together, their exhaustion catching up with them. Dré joined them, his face reflecting a rare, weary smile.
Trekker’s going to make it Dré said.
Yeah, Trey agreed, his voice hoarse with relief. He’s a tough guy. He’ll pull through.
Dré nodded, his eyes misty with gratitude and fatigue.
They spent the next few hours sharing stories, trying to distract themselves from the worry of Trekker’s condition. They even talked to the Olseno family. As they waited, their thoughts kept drifting back to Trekker, hoping he would wake up soon and be able to see how much he was loved and supported.
Eventually, they were told that only two people could visit Trekker. Dré decided that Trey and Christopher should be the ones to see him .
When they entered his room, they found him lying in bed, connected to various monitors and IVs. His face was pale, but there was a peaceful look about him, his breathing steady and calm.
Christopher sat by his side, holding Trekker’s hand gently, while Trey stood quietly at the foot of the bed.
For now, they would stay by Trekker’s side, offering their silent support as he began the long road to recovery. They knew the journey ahead would be challenging, but the sight of Trekker safe and resting was a precious gift they cherished deeply.
He's going to pull through this.... and it would be like it never happened Christopher said smiling sadly at his boyfriend.
Yeah.... After that he and I are going to talk about the dangers of taking off his vest Trey said .
Christopher smiled at Trey.
