A/N: I have had several requests that I write another chapter continuing my human AU entitled "Picnic".
"So what I want to know," Keefe declared as he plopped down into Sophie's desk chair, "is how you managed to be assigned to the dorm closest to campus when I got assigned like, ten miles out."
"It's not ten miles," Sophie argued with a laugh. "You're just being overdramatic."
"Okay, maybe not ten miles," he agreed. "But it's definitely going to take me longer to get to class. And I need my beauty sleep."
Sophie rolled her eyes. "Somehow I think you'll survive it."
"Besides," Keefe continued, ignoring her comment, "I like being melodramatic. It gets me attention."
"Only from me," she pointed out. "And only slightly irritated attention."
He smirked and reached out, pulling her into his lap. "Yeah, well, what can I say? You're cute when you find me annoying."
"That explains so much," she whispered as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and leaned in for a kiss. "That must be why you annoy me all the time."
Keefe let out a low chuckle and drew her in for another kiss.
They'd been dating for a few months, and they'd had a great summer following their high school graduation. They'd told their friends that they were together, and none of them had been particularly surprised, though Sophie had watched in amazement when Biana had turned to Fitz with expectant eyes, and...
Fitz had sighed, pulled out his wallet, and handed her a ten dollar bill.
"What...?" Sophie had asked. Biana had flashed a smug grin and told her that they'd had a bet going as to how long it would take Sophie and Keefe to 'figure things out'.
Biana had bet it would be before graduation.
Fitz had insisted that Sophie was totally oblivious to both Keefe's feelings and her own, and that Keefe would need more time to work up the courage to ask her out. Apparently, Fitz had assumed Keefe would gain more confidence after moving out of his parents' house.
"But don't worry," Fitz had assured them both as he'd grinned at them, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I had a plan."
"And what was that?" Keefe had asked, wrapping an arm around Sophie's waist and mock glaring at his best friend.
"I was trying to convince Tam to ask Sophie out if you hadn't done it by the time classes started," Fitz had told him plainly. "I knew Sophie would feel awkward, but that she'd either say no because we all knew she didn't like him like that, or she'd say yes to be polite and Tam would explain the real reason he was asking. But either way, you would definitely find out, and be super jealous because you and Tam have that weird rivalry, and that would push you to tell Sophie how you felt about her."
"Gross," had Keefe complained. "I'm glad I worked up the courage before Sophie had to endure a potential date with Tammy Boy."
All in all, it had been a ridiculously easy transition. Grady and Edaline had been pretty cool about it too. Edaline had teared up and hugged them both, commenting on how they were so grow up. Grady--who had always liked Keefe--had reacted like a typical dad, calling Keefe "That Boy" every time he came over. But Keefe didn't seem to mind--he even found it amusing.
And Keefe had proved to be a really good boyfriend. Not that she'd had any doubt. He was already able to make her laugh better than anyone else was, and he was an incredibly good listener.
But it made things so much easier not to have to deny her feelings and attraction to him.
"What are you thinking about?" Keefe murmured as she pulled away. He flicked her hair over her shoulder. "I know that look. That's your contemplative face."
