Enid and Wednesday stepped into their apartment, the familiar surroundings enveloping them in a comforting embrace.
"It's nice to be home again," Enid said, her voice filled with nostalgia and relief.
She glanced around the room, her eyes lingering on the small details that made this place theirs. The bookshelf is filled with Wednesday’s dark literature and her own collection of novels. The mismatched furniture that somehow blended perfectly.
Wednesday stood in the middle of the room, her gaze sweeping over the familiar yet foreign surroundings. "Did I really buy this for us?" she asked, her tone tinged with disbelief.
"Yup," Enid replied, a soft smile playing on her lips. "You said it was the first place that ever felt like home to you."
Wednesday nodded slowly, taking it all in. "I guess I really did love you so much," she mused, her voice quiet as she continued to glance around the room.
There was something vulnerable in the way she said it, as if she was trying to piece together a part of herself that felt lost.
Enid turned to her, her heart aching at the uncertainty in Wednesday’s voice. "Are you saying you don't love me?" she asked gently, her eyes searching Wednesday’s face for a hint of the woman she knew so well.
"It's... it's not that," Wednesday said, struggling to find the right words. "I just never thought I would do this for someone. I never imagined myself caring so much that I would want to create a home with someone else."
Enid’s smile widened, and she stepped closer, reaching out to take Wednesday’s hand.
"You know," she began softly."I never thought I would fall in love with someone as emotionally reserved as you. You were always so stoic and calm, like nothing could ever touch you."
"Indeed," Wednesday replied, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "But now that you’ve come into my life, I’ve started to see things in a different way. You’ve shown me that there’s more to life than I ever allowed myself to see."
Enid’s heart swelled at Wednesday’s words, and she squeezed her hand gently. "I’m glad I could be that for you," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "You’ve changed my life too, you know. I never imagined I could be this happy."
Wednesday nodded, her eyes softening as she looked at Enid. For a moment, the tension between them seemed to melt away, leaving only the love that had brought them together in the first place.
"Now let’s put our things away, shall we?" Enid suggested, her voice lightening as she tried to steer them back to the present.
Wednesday nodded, a small smile gracing her lips. "Alright." she agreed.
They spent the next few minutes unpacking their bags, each item they pulled out serving as a reminder of the life they had built together.
As they worked, Enid would occasionally glance over at Wednesday, watching as she carefully placed her belongings in their usual spots.
It was as if she was trying to reconnect with the person she had been before the memory loss, and Enid couldn’t help but feel a surge of hope that those memories would come flooding back.
As they finished unpacking, an unspoken tension lingered between them. Enid hesitated before sitting down on the couch beside Wednesday.
Normally, she would have leaned into her, maybe even cuddled close, but now she worried that her affection might feel intrusive or uncomfortable to Wednesday, who was still navigating some of her memories.
