#9 | AWKWARD!

A Few Weeks Later

Life had returned to its usual rhythm, or so you tried to convince yourself. The morning after that unexpected night at Kenma's house lingered in your mind like a ghost. You couldn't shake the feeling of warmth that had settled in your chest since then—a warmth that you couldn't quite name. Every time your thoughts drifted back to that morning, you found yourself replaying the moment Kenma handed you his clothes, the gentle brush of his fingers against yours as you accepted them, and the way your heart skipped a beat as his scent enveloped you.

But weeks had passed, and the memories were supposed to fade into the background. You told yourself that the connection you had felt was a one-time thing, a result of too much alcohol and the vulnerability of the situation. Yet, despite your best efforts, the thought of Kenma kept creeping back into your mind at the most inconvenient times.

It didn't help that Rin had been relentlessly teasing you ever since you told her what had happened. She had this smug look on her face every time Kenma's name came up, and you hated how she seemed to know something you didn't. But you played along, brushing off her comments with a roll of your eyes, pretending that it was all just a funny story you could both laugh about.

It was a Friday evening when you received the unexpected message. You were at home, curled up on your couch with a book you weren't really reading, when your phone buzzed. The notification didn't show who it was, and you furrowed your brows as you opened it.

kenma

kenma

hey y/n

im having a get together at my place and i thought id invite u

you can come if you want

Your heart skipped a beat, and you read the message twice to make sure you weren't imagining things. Kenma wanted to see you again? The thought made you feel a bit giddy, though you quickly reminded yourself to keep your expectations in check. This was just a casual invitation, nothing more.

But still, there was something about the way he had reached out that made you feel like this wasn't just a random text. There was a sense of sincerity in his words, a subtle hint that maybe, just maybe, he wanted to spend more time with you.

After a moment of hesitation, you typed out a reply. Agreeing to go.

You put your phone down, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves. It was just a get-together, you reminded yourself. Nothing to get too worked up about. But as you glanced at the clock, you realized you were already thinking about what you were going to wear, how you were going to style your hair, and how you were going to keep your cool in front of him.

The next day seemed to drag on endlessly as you waited for the evening to arrive. You tried to keep yourself busy with work, errands, anything to take your mind off the hours that stretched ahead of you. But no matter what you did, the anticipation gnawed at you, making it impossible to focus on anything else.
