#29 | SICK DAYS
It had been a couple of months since you and Kenma officially started dating. Though your relationship was still new, Kenma was always finding small ways to show he cared. Whether it was surprising you with your favorite drink or leaving you little notes, his quiet but consistent affection never failed to warm your heart.
This morning, however, was anything but normal.
You woke up feeling terrible—your throat was raw, your head pounding as if a drum were being played inside it. Even your limbs felt heavy, like you were walking through water. After debating whether to power through, you decided it was best to call in sick.
"Hey, it's Y/n. I'm not feeling great today," you told your boss over the phone, your voice hoarse and cracking. "Can I take a sick day?"
Your boss gave a concerned but understanding reply, granting you the day off. Relieved, you flopped back into bed, hoping the rest would do you some good.
Moments later, Rin burst into your room like a whirlwind. Her expression was one of sheer panic, her long black hair swinging as she rushed toward you.
"Y/n, baby, you okay?" she asked, placing her hand against your forehead.
You groaned softly. "I'm sick, Rin. Won't go to work today."
Rin frowned, her brows knitting together. "You're burning up. Do you have a fever?"
"Maybe," you muttered weakly, barely able to keep your eyes open.
"I can't stay—I have work," Rin said regretfully, already standing up. "But I'll grab you some meds to get you through the day. I'll take care of you later, okay?"
Before you could protest, she hurried out of the room. True to her word, Rin returned shortly after with painkillers, a glass of water, and a warm blanket, all delivered with a kiss on your forehead.
"Sleep, babe. You'll feel better later," she said softly before heading out the door.
You swallowed the pills and pulled the blanket around you, the world fading as exhaustion took over.
Hours later, the buzzing of your phone stirred you from your restless sleep. You blindly reached out, squinting at the screen to see Kenma's name flashing. Groaning, you answered.
"Hello?"
"Y/n?" Kenma's voice was soft, but laced with concern. "What happened to you? You're not at work. I went by to bring you something, but you weren't there."
Your lips curled into a weak smile despite yourself. "Aw, you wanted to surprise me? That's sweet. But yeah, I'm sick—stuck at home today. Don't worry, though. I know you want to come over, but don't. I don't want to get you sick."
There was a pause on his end, and then his tone turned firm. "Is Rin there with you?"
"No, she's at work," you said, wondering where this was going.
"Good. I'm coming over."
"What—Kenma, no! I said I don't want you getting sick!"
"I'm not taking no for an answer."
Before you could argue further, he hung up, leaving you staring at the "Call Ended" screen in disbelief.
"Unbelievable," you muttered, but deep down, a part of you felt touched. Still, you hoped he'd change his mind.
