#16 | BIRTHDAY

It was finally here—Kenma's birthday, the day you had somehow managed to plan at the last minute. You'd spent most of the night tossing and turning, your mind buzzing with anticipation, nerves, and maybe a touch of anxiety. When you finally drifted off to sleep, it felt like mere minutes before you were jolted awake again.

"Y/N! Get up!" Rin's voice broke through the fog of sleep, but you stubbornly pulled the covers over your head, muttering something unintelligible. You barely had a moment to resist before you felt the icy splash of water on your face.

"RIN!" you screeched, bolting upright as cold water dripped down your face and onto your bed. She stood at the foot of your bed, holding an empty cup with a satisfied smirk.

"I tried calling your name, but you left me no choice," she said, clearly unapologetic. "You're the one who said we had to get up early, remember?"

Grumbling under your breath, you wiped your face with your sleeve and reluctantly swung your legs out of bed. After a quick shower to warm up and get rid of the lingering cold, you threw on a white floral dress adorned with delicate blue flowers. The soft fabric brushed against your skin as you paired it with an off-white cropped cardigan, adding a touch of warmth to the morning chill. Rin, always effortlessly stylish, was dressed in a casual baby tee and baggy jeans, looking like she'd just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

"Let's go get the food and drinks," you said, grabbing a small gift bag you had prepared the night before. You felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness fluttering in your chest. With everything ready, you hurried out the door and into Rin's car, eager to pick up the essentials for the party.

The drive to the catering place was filled with chatter about the party, the anticipation building with each passing minute. After picking up the food and drinks, you decided to check in with Shouyou.

"Hey, Shouyou! Is everything ready over there?" you asked over the phone, balancing the gift bag on your lap.

"Almost done," Shouyou replied, his voice filled with energy. "Just need you guys to help with the last touches."

When you arrived at Shouyou's place, you immediately got to work. The atmosphere was a mix of chaotic excitement and focused preparation. Rin and Shouyou handled the decorations, while you arranged the food on the table. The smell of freshly baked cake filled the air as Kuroo swung by to drop it off, giving you all a thumbs-up before heading out to pick up the guest of honor.

"He thinks we're going to see a movie," Kuroo said with a sly grin as he left. "He has no idea what's in store."

By the time you finished all the preparations, it was already 5 PM, and the sky outside was starting to dim. The soft glow of fairy lights lit up the living room, casting a warm, festive ambiance over the space. Everything was ready, and you could feel your heartbeat quicken with each passing minute.

You knew Kuroo was close when your phone buzzed with a text message: We're near. Get ready.

A ring at the doorbell signaled the moment of truth. You quickly took your position, phone in hand to record the entire surprise. Shouyou stood near the door, holding the cake, while Rin had a party popper in hand, ready to go.

As Shouyou opened the door, you all jumped out, voices echoing in unison, "SURPRISE! Happy birthday, Kenma!"

Kenma's usually calm, composed expression morphed into one of genuine shock, his golden eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. The sight was so endearing, so rare, that you couldn't help but think it was absolutely adorable.
