Lu Weiguo moved swiftly, promptly reporting Shi Tingyu's desire to work to the organizational department.
Upon reviewing Shi Tingyu's information, the personnel at the department were pleasantly surprised.
Her resume was impressive.
There were many military spouses seeking employment, but current positions were scarce and highly competitive.
While some positions were critically needed, they required specific skills and qualifications.
Many military spouses could barely read or write and had only attended literacy classes in their villages, making it difficult to place them in suitable roles.
What they needed was someone like Shi Tingyu—professionally skilled with a high level of education.
When Lu Weiguo submitted the report, he also mentioned Shi Tingyu's desired job directions.
Director Wu of the organizational department first called Director Liu of the Women's Federation's Publicity Department.
When Director Liu received the call, her head throbbed with exhaustion.
At only forty, the constant inquiries felt like she was much older.
"Director Wu, what can I do for you?"
Director Wu, sensing Liu's fatigue, awkwardly rubbed his nose. "Director Liu, I just wanted to check if your Publicity Department still has any openings."
Director Liu, familiar with this type of inquiry, responded bluntly, "Director Wu, you've asked me twice today already. I've told you, we really don't have any positions left."
Director Wu anticipated this response but still insisted, "This particular military spouse is exceptional, with strong capabilities."
"No matter how capable, we don't have any vacancies. I can't just hire someone and not have them work, can I?" Liu replied firmly.
Understanding Liu's refusal, Director Wu sighed, "Alright, I'll ask about positions at the administrative school. But Director Liu, you'd better not regret missing out on this talent."
Realizing there was no hope left, Director Liu acknowledged this and ended the call.
Having been turned away at the Women's Federation, Director Wu then contacted Principal Ren of the administrative school.
Principal Ren's school genuinely needed staff. With more military spouses and children, the school was expanding and looking for teachers.
Currently, the school had a five-year curriculum with basic subjects like math, language, music, art, and physical education. From the fourth grade, natural science courses were added.
Finding teachers for subjects like music and art had been particularly challenging.
Many so-called music and art teachers were actually struggling with their skills.
The three teachers handling music and art were overburdened, so any help in these subjects was much needed.
Thus, Director Wu's call was like a lifeline.
Upon hearing about Shi Tingyu's background and her being a well-known artist, Principal Ren was thrilled.
The school had no issue with Shi Tingyu's family background as long as she was a qualified candidate.
With the answer he wanted, Director Wu happily conversed with Principal Ren, who expressed eagerness for any future talents.
After ending the call, Director Wu wiped his sweat, relieved to have secured a position for Shi Tingyu.
Shi Tingyu expected that it might take a few days for news about a job, but to her surprise, she received an update the very next day.
Lu Weiguo informed her, "There's a spot for you at an administrative school within our military district. They are looking for a teacher right now, and they're pleased with your qualifications."
Shi Tingyu felt reassured and asked, "Did they say when I'll start?"
"The school is expanding a class per grade and needs an art teacher urgently. You can start a week from now," Lu Weiguo explained.
Shi Tingyu had no objections and planned to handle the meal invitation before her start date.
"We should arrange the meal for everyone before I start work. It's better not to delay."
Lu Weiguo had been contemplating this as well.
"It's a good idea, but it might be tiring. Perhaps we should get the cafeteria to help with the preparations."
Shi Tingyu opposed this, recalling that Zhang's wife from next door had offered to help. She realized that hosting meals typically involved personal effort rather than full-service arrangements.
"So, we'll handle it ourselves. Zhang's wife said she'd help, and it's best if we do it the traditional way."
She estimated inviting the three company commanders and the three battalion commanders, along with a few close friends. This should suffice for the meal.
Since families weren't very affluent, extravagant celebrations were rare, and the norm was to keep it simple.
However, help was acceptable.
Lu Weiguo considered the weather and suggested, "It's hot now. Meat and dishes spoil quickly. I'll take a day off tomorrow to buy ingredients. We'll handle the meal in the evening."
Shi Tingyu was concerned about him taking leave so soon after his wedding leave.
Lu Weiguo reassured her, "Don't worry. We have leave accumulated. It's common for newlyweds to take time off for such events, and the leadership understands."
Shi Tingyu was reassured as long as there were no issues.
The next morning, Lu Weiguo borrowed a vehicle from the military camp and, feeling excited, prepared a surprise for Shi Tingyu.
Instead of heading straight to buy groceries, Lu Weiguo took her to a department store.
"What are we doing here?" Shi Tingyu asked.
Lu Weiguo led her to the watch counter.
"I noticed that during weddings, people often receive gifts like watches. I didn't prepare everything in advance when we matched up. So, I've been collecting tickets and am now ready to complete the gifts."
