It was weird. I had become so used to having Riley right there but now she was off, doing her job. Sure, back in London she had been doing her job. But at least I could sit with her. I had gotten used to that. Watching her do her work while I messed with the things in her office. It had changed and I knew it would. Afterall, it was the racing season.
I collapsed onto the makeshift bed in my driver's room, trying to distract myself with a tennis ball while I waited for her. The press conference wasn't for a bit longer and I trusted Izzy but I wanted to be able to talk to her. Oscar didn't chat when it was race weekend, he liked to focus.
"Oh my god, this is really depressing."
I sat up and saw her standing in the doorway, smirking at me. "Riles, hey."
"Hey, Lan."
I moved over on the bed thing to let her sit. Her hair was a little wet, I assumed it was from the rain but it made her look- No, I wasn't going to admit that. She took the space next to me, looking around the room.
I hadn't looked at her today, other than this morning when I had accidentally woken her up. And that was something I was going to keep for myself. But as she looked around, I took the time to look over her. The way she pinned her hair back with different clips, the soft green blouse that hugged her in all the right ways, the black cargo pants, the Doc Martens. All of it professionally fit her but her personality still shone through.
"I know that you technically don't stay here for more than a weekend but this is so bare."
"Yeah," I rubbed the back of my head, smiling as she looked back at me. "It's kinda just a glorified closet."
She giggled and I felt my spirits slowly lifting. But that developed into a yawn and I raised an eyebrow. "Are you tired?"
"Very."
"Lay down, I'll wake you up before the press conference."
"You sure?" She looked skeptical.
"I promise."

"I swear to God, if I get in trouble because of you two."
That was the only thing I heard before I got splashed with water. I shot up, wiping my eyes. Oscar was standing in front of me, looking pissed off. I must have fallen asleep, not realizing. I looked down at my watch, eyebrows rising in shock.
"Fuck."
"Yeah, fuck. You dumbass."
I looked over, remembering that Riley was still there and somehow, still asleep. I didn't want to wake her, she looked so peaceful. My hand hovered as I thought about tucking that stray hair behind her ear but Oscar hit me.
"Stop having a crush on her for two minutes and get up. Press conference."
"Shit, right- Wait, I don't have a crush on her."
"No time for you to sit in denial. Wake her up."
I went to argue but stopped. It wasn't worth fighting right now. We would get in trouble if we were late to this thing and I didn't need to get her into trouble because I fell asleep. I shifted her shoulders lightly, watching her stir.
"Riles, don't hate me but we're about to be late to the press conference."
She sat up fast and knocked my nose. We both groaned and I had to stop myself from laughing at how cliche this looked. If anyone was spying on this, it would look like some fucked up rushed sex. The glare she gave me when I snorted was enough to make me shut up.
"If we weren't about to be late and you didn't have to race this weekend. I would kill you."
"And I would let you, but let's go."
She didn't wait for me to get up or even take my hand as I offered it to her down the steps. I hoped she wasn't mad at me, just a bit frustrated because of the situation. I knew how much she had been worrying about it all and I didn't want to add any more stress to it. If anything, I wanted to take it away and right now, I was failing. Hard.
We made it a little closer to the press room and she split off from me without saying a thing to go join Izzy. Now, I knew she had to be mad at me. I tried not to think of it as I took my seat on the couch. Max was on the other side of me and I smiled, not wanting to take my eyes off Riley as she stood to the side with Izzy.
They were whispering about something and the shock on Izzy's face was enough to tell me it was about what just happened. I needed to focus, the press conference had started and thankfully no one had asked any questions directed at me. But they would and I couldn't be worried about Riley.

"Okay, tell me."
"Hm?"
Max rolled his eyes at me. "Who is she and why does she have your attention like a football match?"
"Just our new media intern."
"And Logan's sister."
I looked up as Charles sat down with us. I dapped him up, looking back over to Riley who had started to chat with her brother. He wasn't looking at me so I assumed she was keeping the events of this morning to herself. At least with him.
"You have a crush on Logan's sister?"
"What? No!" That drew attention towards us and I laid my head on the table with a groan. "She's just a friend."
"And so was Alex. But look at us now."
I shot glares at Charles through my arms. "It's not like that and even if it was, it couldn't be."
"So you do like her?"
"Yes, no. No- fuck. I don't know. It doesn't matter."
Max put his hand on my back and I had half the nerve to hit him but I needed to keep my cool. It wasn't helping my case of 'not liking Riley'.
"Well, think. At least tonight. You can avoid her at the driver's dinner."
"Thank god for that."
