It was the month of October and the night of Carlton's Best and Fairest. Ava was now far into her pregnancy, bump well and truly visible. Sam was sure that Carlton supporters weren't aware of him becoming a father soon but tonight, everyone was going to know. He got into his suit, putting his jacket on before looking in the mirror to fix himself. Ava was still in the bathroom, fixing her makeup and hair.

"You almost ready?" Sam called out to her.

"Yes! I am coming out now" she replied, walking out of the bathroom and into their bedroom. "What do you think?".

Sam turned around and examined her, his eyes wide open and looking at her with admiration. "Wow" he said, walking over to her. "You look stunning, and the baby bump looks amazing in that dress".

"You sure it's not too much?" Ava asked

"You sure it's not too much?" Ava asked.

"Not at all. It's an award ceremony and everyone's partners will be dressed like you" he answered, putting his hand on her baby bump. "We gotta go now. Make sure you got everything".

Ava nodded, looking into her bag and making sure she had everything she needed for the night. She was excited to see all three of her friends at the Best and Fairest as well and couldn't wait to see how they dressed for the evening.

Sam and Ava got into their car, then drove down to the Crown Casino Melbourne. When they arrived, they were lucky enough to run into Patrick Cripps and his wife, Mon. Ava and Monique got along very well, becoming best friends almost immediately. Both girls complimented each other on how they looked, then followed the boys into the building. When they got to the location of where the event was happening, all the other Carlton boys and partners were already taking photos and chatting with each other. Some of the Carlton boys who were single, were taking photos together.

Sam looked at Ava and nodded. "You ready for the moment that everyone finds out we're having a baby?" he asked.

"I am" she responded nervously as she held his hand and went to the photo area.

They stood beside each other, allowing the Carlton media people to take their photos. One member of the media team even asked for permission if they can post it on Carlton's social media accounts and Ava and Sam both agreed. Sam knew things were going to blow up when the photo got posted up and he was going to be the new talk of Carlton in the AFL media world.

Ava caught up with her three friends, before getting escorted to the table where she and Sam were going to sit. Walshy pulled out the chair for her, then sat down himself between Ava and Crippa. Walshy took his phone out, looking on social media to see that Carlton supporters and many opposition team supporters, flooded the comment section under his and Ava's photos. Everyone was congratulating Sammy and Ava on their pregnancy news, most even commenting the gender of the baby that they thought it would be. Sammy knew, the next time an announcement came out from him, it was going to be the birth of his son.

The night began and interviews were going to start happening. Walshy, Crippa and Weitering were going to be the first three to do a join interview on stage. Carlton's media team was also live streaming it all for Carlton supporters at home, to watch. Sammy joined his other two teammates on stage, sitting on the couch between Weitering and Crippa. The host began with interviewing Crippa first, which gave Walshy some time to settle his nerves.

When the turn came to Walshy, the host first started with asking about the football season and how Walshy felt about his season. He spoke about his footy season comfortably and happily, when the host decided to ask other questions.

"Carlton supporters at home and who have attended today, have just found out that you are going to be father. How are things going for you?" The host asked.

"Yeah, it definitely was a shock to me at the start too but as we get closer and closer to the baby's arrival, I am becoming excited and nervous" Walshy answered.

"Do you know what you and your partner are having?" the host continued to question.

"Yeah. We found out a little while ago. Umm, I was lucky to have all my mates and family there on the day. My partner actually lied to me at the beginning about our baby's gender so when I found out the real gender, I was ecstatic" he said as he laughed with the crowd.

"You won't be sharing the news with us?" asked the host.

"Umm, yeah look, we spoke about it in the car. Baby Walsh is going to be here in about 3 months' time so we think we will leave it to that very day to announce to our supporters on the gender" Walshy answered. "But yeah, I am very lucky to have Ava in my life and starting a family with her, is going to be really fun and exciting. I truly can't wait to meet our baby and begin living our lives as a family".

Hearing all this, made Ava emotional but in a happy way. She was so happy that Walshy was looking forward to becoming a father and it made her excited to see how he would go once their baby entered the world.

"Crippa, how do you feel about your partner in crime becoming a father? You just welcomed your first child this year as well" The host asked Patrick Cripps.

"Oh, I was so excited when he told me and Mon that he was going to be a father. You know, when Walshy first walked through the doors at Ikon Park, you can see he was a quiet and shy kid, and I always wondered when he was going to blow up. A lot of us older boys at the club, didn't know what type of kid he was but then he got his opportunity to play, and Sam Walsh became this completely different person. Fast forward to now and knowing he is going to become a dad; I honestly couldn't be much prouder of him and what he has become" Crippa said, looking at Walshy. "I can't wait to see the day that your baby arrives, and you hold the baby in your arms for the first time because let me tell you, it changes your life a lot, but I am warning you now, get ready for the long nights and less sleeps, changing dirty nappies and much more because a baby is definitely not easy".

Everyone in the room started laughing, including Ava and Walshy. The interviews wrapped up and the count for the Best and Fairest award had begun.

At the end of the night, Patrick Cripps came out victorious and won another Best and Fairest at Carlton. George Hewett was runner up and Sam Walsh came in third. Ava was so proud of him and the season he had in AFL but now things were going to be different. Walshy was going to be on holidays up until November, which meant the two of them were finally going to have time together and then in January, their lives as parents was going to begin. Now it was time to prepare for the next crazy three months before Walshy and Carlton's 2025 AFL season started again.
