The next morning
Zoe woke up feeling groggy and congested. Her throat ached and her nose was stuffy. She slowly sat up in bed, groaning as her head throbbed with a headache. When she shuffled out of her room, she noticed her mother, Stephanie, busily stirring a mug of hot tea in the kitchen.Stephanie looked up from the tea as Zoe entered the kitchen, a sympathetic smile on her face. "Morning, honey. Slept well? You still sound completely stuffed up."
Zoe grumbled, still groggy from sleep and sick. "Not really, I feel like I've been run over by a truck. And my nose is so clogged, I can barely breathe."
"Well, I've made you some tea with honey. It's supposed to help soothe your throat and loosen up some of that mucus in your chest." She handed Zoe the steaming mug, watching her daughter take a tentative sip.
Zoe winced slightly as the hot liquid hit her throat, but it did provide some momentary relief. The warmth spread through her, and the honey added a touch of sweetness, making it a bit more bearable to swallow. She managed a muttered 'thanks' to her mother as she took another sip.
Stephanie reached out to touch Zoe's forehead, feeling for a fever.
Zoe bristled at the touch, feeling like a child again. She swatted at her mother's hand gently. "I'm not five anymore, I can tell if I have a fever or not."
"Of course you can but mothers can't help but worry. Especially when their daughters sound like they've been gargling with sandpaper."
Zoe rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but let out a small laugh, which quickly turned into a coughing fit. She groaned in frustration, leaning against the counter while she caught her breath. "This sucks. I hate being sick."
Stephanie handed her a tissue, watching as Zoe blew her nose loudly.
"No one likes being sick, sweetie, but it will pass eventually. In the meantime, you should rest as much as possible. Let your body focus on getting better.".......................
Zoe groaned sleepily as the sound of her phone ringing pulled her out of her light sleep. She slowly sat up in bed, disoriented and bleary-eyed, and groped for her phone on the bedside table. Finally finding it, she answered the call without checking the ID.
"Hey, baby."
"Hey..."
"Sorry, were you sleeping?
I didn't mean to wake you up."
"Yeah, I was trying to sleep. I'm still feeling pretty crappy.""Oh crap, I'm sorry. That's my fault.
Ididn't realize you were sleeping. I just wanted to tell you I'm in London now I'm still at the airport."
"Wait, what? You're in London? Already?"
Her brain struggling to catch up. Despite her grogginess, she was genuinely surprised. After all, it hadn't even been 24 hours.
"Yep, I was serious when I said I was gonna come see you as soon as possible. I left right after the after party last night. Had my private jet ready to go and everything."
"You're crazy. Who in their right mind flies across an ocean just to see their girlfriend who has a cold?"Taylor laughed softly.
"Well, I guess I'm not in my right mind then. Because I didn't think twice once I decided I was coming to see you. Hell, I'd fly across the ocean for much less. Especially when it comes to you."
"You're unbelievable, So, when do I actually get to see you then?""Well, right now I'm still at the airport. I need to get through customs and stuff before I can actually leave. And then my private driver needs to pick me up and also tell me your address."
"Wait, you didn't even have my address? You flew all this way to see me without knowing where I live? How did you even plan to get here without an address?""Eh, I was kind of banking on you texting me your address when I was on the plane. Guess I should've asked for it earlier, huh?"
"You idiot, How were you planning to find me without an address? Just walk around london shouting my name?""Something like that. But honestly, I was hoping you'd solve that little problem for me. So, any chance you could give me your address?
"You're lucky you're cute. Otherwise, I'd probably hang up on you right now. But since you asked so nicely... I'll text you my address."....................
Zoe was propped up on the couch in the living room, a blanket draped over her legs. She was watching a movie, but her attention kept drifting away, her mind constantly on the fact that Taylor would be arriving soon. Stephanie was bustling around the living room, straightening pillows and fluffing cushions in preparation for Taylor's arrival. She was extremely excited to meet the girlfriend of her daughter, her face practically glowing with anticipation.
Zoe glanced at her mother, a small smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "You're almost as excited as I am," she teased, watching as her mother fussed over the couch cushion placement. "You're not usually this meticulous about tidying up."
"Of course I'm excited. I get to meet the girl that's making my daughter so happy. It's a big deal!"
