The door bell rang
Zoe's heart leapt as the doorbell rang. She quickly sat up, trying to ignore the slight dizziness that clouded her head. She looked at her mother, who was watching her with a knowing smile. "I got it," Zoe said as she slowly got up from the couch, the blanket falling from her legs as she shakily made her way to the front door.
Zoe opened the front door, and there stood Taylor, dressed casually in jeans and a hoodie, her hair loose and wavy around her shoulders. She didn't have any makeup on, and her face was a bit weary from the travel, but her eyes sparkled as she caught sight of Zoe.
The moment Zoe laid eyes on Taylor, a wave of relief washed over her. It had only been a few hours since they last talked, but seeing her in person felt like an eternity. A small, genuine smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she took her girlfriend in.
Taylor's gaze softened as she looked at Zoe, taking in her disheveled hair, reddened nose, and pale face. The sight of her looking so unwell tugged at Taylor's heartstrings, but she tried not to show it. Instead, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Zoe in a gentle hug.
Taylor leaned in and placed a tender kiss on Zoe's cheek, her lips lingering against her skin for a moment before pulling back. Her voice was soft as she spoke, filled with genuine affection and concern.
"Hey, baby. I've missed you."
The simple touch and soft words were like a soothing balm to Zoe's weary senses. She leaned into the embrace, her arms wrapping around Taylor's waist. She buried her face in the crook of Taylor's neck.
"Missed you, too."
Taylor tightened her grip around Zoe, her hands rubbing small circles on her back. As she did so, she felt the heat emanating from Zoe's body, a clear sign of the fever that was still ravaging her system.
"Baby, you're burning up. You really ought to be in bed, not standing here greeting me."
Zoe groaned slightly, pressing her forehead against Taylor's shoulder. "But I wanted to see you. And I didn't want you to think I was being lazy or unenthusiastic about your grand entrance."
"You're impossible, I wouldn't think you were being lazy or unenthusiastic. I'm just worried about you. You really need to lie down and rest."
As soon as Taylor entered the house, her gaze flicked over the living room, taking everything in. She was immediately greeted by Zoe's sister, Leah, who was bouncing on her toes in excitement, her eyes wide. A huge fan of Taylor and her music, Leah struggled to contain her fangirling.
At the same time, a warm smile broke across Stephanie's face as she approached Taylor. Having no idea about her daughter's famous girlfriend, Stephanie extended a friendly hug.
"Welcome," Stephanie said warmly, her voice filled with genuine joy. "It's so nice to finally meet you. Zoe has been talking about you non-stop."
Meanwhile, Leah was practically vibrating with enthusiasm. Her eyes sparkled as she looked up at Taylor, unable to believe that she was actually standing in front of her idol.
"Oh my God, you're really here," Leah blurted out, her voice high-pitched with excitement. "I can't believe it. I'm such a huge fan."
Zoe was settled back on the couch, her head resting against a pillow. She was still visibly unwell but being around Taylor was definitely making her feel better. She watched as her girlfriend engaged in conversation with her mother, their conversation flowing smoothly. It was a sight that definitely made her smile.
Stephanie leaned back against the couch, her eyes on Taylor.
"And how long are you here for, exactly?" she asked, her voice casual. "I hope you don't mind me saying, but you seem like a pretty busy person. I'm surprised you managed a trip across the world on such short notice."
"I'm here for a few days. I figured I had some downtime between tour dates and decided to use it wisely."
Stephanie's eyebrows rose slightly, surprised by Taylor's casual demeanor. "You call randomly flying to London just to see your girlfriend a wise use of your downtime?"
"Well, when you put it like that, it does sound a bit rash, doesn't it? But yes, absolutely. When it comes to Zoe, all rationality goes out the window."
Stephanie's expression softened as she saw the way Zoe reacted to Taylor's words.
"It's sweet , and I have to say, I like how devoted you are to my daughter. It's reassuring unlike those other bitches she dated."
Zoe's eyes widened slightly.
"Mum," she protested weakly, burying her face in her hands. "You don't have to say it like that!"Stephanie smirked, clearly enjoying the reaction she got from Zoe. She turned her attention back to Taylor.
"Seriously though," she said, her tone serious. "You're the first partner of Zoe's who I've actually liked. You seem more mature, more responsible, and most importantly, you genuinely care about my daughter. That's the most important thing to me."
Taylor, genuinely touched by Stephanie's words, gave her a warm, genuine smile. "Thank you, I do care about her, probably more than you even know. Your daughter is one of a kind, and I'm just happy that I get to be with her. She makes me happy, and she means a lot to me."
As the conversation went on, Zoe began to feel a wave of dizziness wash over her. It felt as if her head was spinning, and it took all her focus to keep herself from appearing too unwell in front of Taylor and her mother. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to steady herself.
