"Ugh...Sorry, I feel..dizzy all of a sudden."
"Maybe you're pushing yourself too hard," Stephanie murmured, her hand still on Zoe's forehead. "You need to go lie down."
Taylor glanced at her watch, noticing the time. She let out a soft sigh, reluctant to leave Zoe but aware that it was getting late.
"I guess I really should head out," she said, her tone filled with regret. "I need to get to my hotel before it gets too late."
"You're...you're leaving?"
Taylor nodded, a frown on her face. "Yeah, I'm sorry. I don't want to leave you, but I need to check into my hotel. Plus, you should get some rest."
Stephanie's eyebrows rose, surprise coloring her features. "Wait, you're staying in a hotel?" she asked, her voice slightly confused. "I assumed you were staying here. This house has plenty of room."
Taylor chuckled awkwardly, a small blush on her cheeks. She wasn't used to people just assuming she'd be staying at other people's homes.
"Oh, I, um, didn't want to impose. I thought it would be more...proper to stay at a hotel..."
Stephanie let out a huff, shaking her head slightly. "Nonsense...Impose? You're Zoe's girlfriend, for God's sake. You're not imposing, you're family. You're not sleeping in some hotel when we have plenty of room here."
Taylor opened her mouth, clearly intending to argue, but the stern look on Stephanie's face made her close it again. She could see that the woman wasn't going to back down on this. She turned to look at Zoe, who was trying to suppress a smile at the exchange.
"Um, well, if you're sure it's okay..." Taylor said, a hint of uncertainty in her voice. "I don't want to be a bother..."
"You're not a bother. You're staying here, and that's final. I won't have my baby's girlfriend staying in some hotel miles away when we have perfectly good accommodations here."
...................
Later, when Taylor was settled in the guest bedroom, Zoe slowly made her way towards the room. She was still feeling weak and dizzy, but she wanted to see her girlfriend before passing out for the night. She padded quietly down the hallway and knocked lightly on the door.
Taylor, who was in the middle of folding her clothes into the dresser, heard the soft knock and looked up.
She walked over to the door, opening it to reveal a very sleepy looking Zoe standing in the doorway.
Zoe looked incredibly pale and exhausted, clearly still unwell. Taylor's face fell into a concerned frown as she looked at her girlfriend.
"Zoe, you're supposed to be in bed," Taylor said, her voice gentle but stern. "You look like you're about to collapse."
Zoe let out a feeble protest, leaning heavily against the doorframe. "I just wanted to see my hot and sexy girlfriend." she murmured, her voice faint. Despite her insistence, the fatigue was clear in her eyes and the way she swayed on her feet.
Taylor couldn't help but chuckle softly at her girlfriend's stubbornness. Even when she was ill, Zoe still managed to make her laugh. But she was also concerned. She reached out to lightly wrap an arm around Zoe's waist, supporting her as she swayed.
As Taylor's arm wrapped around her waist, Zoe leaned into her, enjoying the feeling of being held. In a moment of sassiness, she looked up at Taylor, her mouth curving into a sly smile.
"Mm, does my hot and sexy girlfriend want to take care of me and tuck me into bed?"
"You're absurd. But yes, your hot and sexy girlfriend does want to take care of you. You're practically falling asleep on your feet. Let me help you back to your room."
Zoe let out a small noise of protest, wanting to draw her teasing out just a bit longer. But she was too tired to fight, and the idea of being tucked in and cared for by Taylor was too tempting to resist. She surrendered, leaning her weight entirely on Taylor with a mock sigh.
"Fine, lead me to my bed, hot stuff."
Taylor helped lead Zoe to her bedroom, practically holding her up as she stumbled along, trying to stay awake. Once they were inside, Taylor carefully guided her to the bed, helping her sit down on that edge. She pulled back the covers and eased Zoe back onto the pillows, gently pulling the blankets up over her.
Zoe was practically boneless at this point, her eyes heavy with exhaustion. But she managed a small, grateful smile as Taylor tucked her in, adjusting the pillows beneath her head. She reached out a weak hand, grasping at Taylor's, a silent plea to not leave.
Despite her exhaustion, Zoe wasn't ready to let Taylor go just yet. When she grabbed her hand, she used all her remaining strength to tug at Taylor's arm. Caught off guard, Taylor stumbled forward, falling unceremoniously onto the bed beside Zoe.
As Taylor found herself sprawled on the bed, Zoe immediately spooned her from behind, snuggling her body as close to Taylor's as she could.
"Zoe , you're supposed to be sleeping, not trying to wrap yourself around me like a clingy koala."
Zoe let out a mumble in response, burrowing closer to Taylor. She was already half asleep, but she was determined to get as much closeness and contact as she could before drifting off fully.
"Comfy," she muttered, her voice drowsy. "Warm. Stay."
Taylor smiled, shaking her head fondly. Zoe's single-minded insistence on not letting go made her heart flutter even as it amused her. She shifted so she could turn around in Zoe's arms, facing her.
"You're really stubborn when you're ill." Taylor asked, her voice soft. "I guess I don't have a choice but to stay, then. But only because you're so clingy."
