Chapter 39
Arly's pov
"Mi know yuh waan done yuh house, but mi nah gi yuh di three hundred grand wey yah a ask mi fah right now. Natty a pree yuh from yuh sell yuh car and buy di jeep." I tell Mattic who came asking if I was going to give him the money he asked me for or not.
"Yuh feel suh?" He asked in a reasoning tone.
I nodded and took a sip of the bottle of heineken in my hand, then say. "Dung to me him a watch, das why mi wait till mi start reap mi weed fi duh more work pon mi house, cause is like nuh body else caan have money like him."
Mattic sat as if in deep thoughts for the rest of the evening, and when Natty and some of the others came to sit with us under the gazebo I didn't have to explain to him further of what I mean. "One Mattic, yuh need fi gi mi a thing outta di piece a money wey yuh have, di little mansion a go up fast." Natty says, looking across at Mattic's house.
I saw Mattic blink in fright and looked towards his house. After a few long seconds, he says. "Dem sey any wey it mawga a dey it bruk. Right now, mi flat out, mi use every dollar carry it to dey suh, and mi glad cause mi nuh know when mi a guh get fi duh nuh more work pon it."
That was surely a quick thinking response by Mattic. However, Natty didn't stop there and proceeded to ask him. "Why yuh neva duh a one bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen first and then yuh duh di rest?"
What a liberty? I asked in my mind and could see that Mattic was greatly offended by his audacity. "Mi not even di a pree dat, thru mi did a work off a budget yuh zimme. A Gibbanks mi affi ask some advice and it did already too late when him a tell mi sey mi should duh one part first." Mattic says, looking thoughtfully at his unfinished house.
"Suh it, guh, we all learn along the way." Natty says, and I fixed him with a look, which made the others look uncomfortable.
"Mattic?" I called.
Mattic turned his head and looked at me, answering. "Oui."
"Ask Natty when him a gi yuh di rest a money fi done build yuh house." I tell him seriously, and everyone seemed to be holding their breath, including Natty.
Mattic rubbed his hand over his braided hair and made a snorting sound. I wasn't going to let Natty off so easily, so I began to speak. "Yuh si when yuh a parr wid a real don, certain things yuh nuh affi ask dem fah. Mi nah sey man fi mind mi, but real bomboclaat don look out fi di real man dem wey a role wid him, cause a dem man dey help mek him have wey him have. Duh a rough estimate and send it to Natty phone a mawnin, den guh collect di money from him one hour after dat. Mi need two hundred grand fi done work pon di addition to my house and as day light a mawnin mi a find di don yard fi it. Mi know sey him have it and anyhow mi nuh get it, mi a stop parr wid him, cause nuh man nah tek mi fi nuh clown. Man fi know dem rights when dem a parr wid don and good don nuh mek yuh affi ask dem fi things."
Natty's face now had an expression of when someone was sulking. Him favor mi bloodclaate mussi think mi trust him. To put even more life into my speech, I elaborate. "When a don ensures that his entourage is well taken care of, he's enabling trust and loyalty from everyone. Therefore, Cryptonite wouldn't have had to feel the urge to betray and steal because his don was wasting his money on those who don't ensure that the don back is kept guarded at all times. The men who parr with the don are sometimes braver and badder than di don and should be treated like royalty because they go with the don on moves to ensure is safety and they're the ones who give the don the courage to make moves, because with them the don feel like he can take on the world and win."
