TW!!: Mentions of death and abuse

Hey! I'm currently trying to work on Hearts and Havoc, I'm sure I'll post something by the end of the day! Hopefully!

Anyways, I felt like making you guys cry today so 😝

——

Glimmer knew Cato loved Clove. She saw it in the way he looked at her. The way he always watched her carefully when it was his turn to take watch. The way he always offered to take extra hours for watch just so she could sleep longer. She could tell when she heard him talk about her to Marvel over the bonfire in the arena one night. She could tell by the way he stroked her hair as she slept. Something she would certainly kill him for if she was awake. She could tell by the way his eyes turned into hearts anytime she gave him her snarky attitude. She could tell by the way he scooped her up and threw her over his shoulder, keeping her from killing Marvel in the heat of an argument. She could tell by the way he came to her aid after every injury. She could tell by the way in her last moments, as the tracker jacket venom made its final stings, she saw him grab her and run away, holding her tight. She knew they were the true star-crossed lovers. Not that district 12 pair.

Marvel knew Cato loved Clove. He saw it in the way he looked at her. The way he always told her to eat. The way he always ate less so she could have more while they were in the arena. The way he immediately grabbed her and pulled her out of the way when the tracker jacker nest fell. The way he never paid any attention to the blonde girl from District 1. He could tell with the way he heard Cato talk about her over the bonfire one night, while she was sleeping. He could tell by the way he stroked her hair as she slept. He could tell by the way he immediately ran after her whenever she got any type of injury, big or small. He could tell when they split up to check out the three fires, and Cato looked at Clove with so much worry and sadness. He knew when he breathed his last moments, he only thought that the pair from district two were the true star-crossed lovers.

Clove didn't know Cato loved her. She was somehow oblivious to the way he stared at her with hearts in his eyes. She didn't know about how he stroked her hair when she slept. She didn't notice how he always ate less so she could have more. She thought that when he told her to eat, it was so she'd be stronger and could enlarge their chances of winning. She didn't know the reason that he offered to take extra watch hours was to let her sleep longer. She knew he wasn't into the blonde from District 1, but she had no idea that he was into her. She thought that the reason he always ran to her when she got an injury, big or small, was because she was one of the best tributes, and could help him win. So, when she had her last breath of air, she thought that the boy next to her, the one she loved, didn't love her back.

Cato knew he loved Clove. He didn't realize it until the games, but he had loved her since they were ten. He knew he loved her when he always wanted to pair up with her in training. When he smiled at her snarky comments. When he cleaned her wounds after she got into a fight with a kid four grades above her. The way he laughed at her stupid jokes. He knew he loved her when he volunteered to keep her safe. He knew he loved her when he told her to eat. When he ate less so she could eat more. When he stroked her hair as she slept. When he smiled as a knife soared past his head when they were fourteen. When he carried her all the way home after she fainted at the training center from exhaustion. When he punched her father after witnessing him beat her. He knew he loved her when he wanted to kiss her as she had him pinned down on the mats in the training center, taunting him. He never got the guts to tell her how he loved her. So when she had her last breath, he knew that she died thinking he didn't love her.
