Hero or zero?

"NO. I WON'T LET YOU DECIDE FOR MY OWN BROTHER."

I ran out in shock.

My brother? With that wicked murderer? It's him who nearly killed Kel! This is some kind of sick joke!

Things from past two days were rewinding in my head over and over again. Nothing had sense anymore.
I found myself at the roof. I could see a shadow jumping off, and another one running in and jumping after it.

My body collapsed on the knees. I broke down completely.

Aubrey ran in after me and tried to comfort me, but I couldn't hear any of it. Then Basil came and helped Aubrey.

Everything eventually was getting silent to the point of my sobs getting quieter than breathing.

"You okay now, Hero? We know that this has been a lot to take in."

Basil stayed silent, still patting my back.

"Hey Basil... I'm sorry. I am so sorry. I forgive you. I never knew about your parents, and I can't comprehend weight of the situation you were put in before the recital."

"Uh, thanks Hero. I really appreciate it. But you still have to forgive Sunny too. "

"...

I don't want to think about it right now."

"Let's give him some time. And about our plan... Remember, it is active but don't tell Hero!"

Aubrey whispered something to Basil and he nodded. Unfortunately I couldn't hear a word.

"Get up now, big man. Dinner time is coming. Let's check Kel's room and we can go."

"Alright, alright... Hey, I have an idea. You can eat dinner at my place. I'm so grateful for having you guys. And I'm sure mom will agree."

"Neat."

We walked down the halls of the hospital. I didn't even realise before how far is the roof from there. We reached Kel's room. He was still sleeping, and beside him was Mari's brother also asleep.

Good... I didn't want to get akward with inviting Basil and Aubrey but excluding Sunny.

"I think we should leave."

"Yeah, Sunny is prescribed to spend this night in the hospital anyway so I think he'll be okay... And about the keeping him company thing we can ask a nurse while leaving."

"Damn Basil, how do you know all these things."

"I asked doc about Sunny just when I woke up after the incident. Oh and mine weren't also that bad to keep me there longer."

"Woah that's fast. You're some type of plant or what?"

"Yep. Secretly I am a sunflower in human undercover."

"What."

"Just joking."

"I don't believe you. With joking."

"Darn it, just don't tell the goverment."

Both exploded in laugh as they were messing around while I was consulting a nurse and calling mom.
Strangers were looking at us weirdly.

"You guys are done? I feel like a mother of six years old siblings right now."

Aubrey tried to catch her breath.

"Yeah yeah, whatever, Mom."

"PFFF-"

At this point Basil was absolutely losing it. Wow, haven't heard that laugh in a while. Maybe even never, he always seemed to chuckle nervously.

Even if this is embarrassing in front of all those strangers, I'm glad that they are still laughing and smiling.

I moved to the exit with Aubrey practically dragging Basil. Mom was standing beside the parked car. The moment we approached, she pulled me into a tight hug.

"I'm sorry... I'm so so sorry honey. I've heard about everything that happened here... I wish I could be there for you, it must've been really difficult."

I hugged her back.

"Don't worry mom, it's alright now... At least I've got the best friends ever."

Aubrey and Basil leaned out from behind Hero and gave a thumbs up.

"Speaking of which, could they eat dinner with us?"

"Of course, honey! I'll happily welcome anyone helping my son."

"Oh, and if you wanted to visit, Kel's asleep now, so there isn't really a point in that."

"Oh yeah, Kel. I'm sure he'll be fine."

Aubrey rose a brow, but didn't ask anything. She exchanged glances with Basil, which was also making a asking face.

Everyone got in the car. Me in front and Basil, Aubrey and Sally in the back.

"Hope you guys don't mind Sally, dad is doing groceries, so I couldn't leave her alone. And please be silent."

But somehow you always left Kel alone when I had school.

"Yes ma'am."

Mom started the engine. Home wasn't really too far away so it took a short time, but I managed to make a little conversation.

"So... What you heard from the doctors call?"

"He said something about the situation, and that you and your friends were sitting there all night... I don't believe how caring son I have!"

"When were you planning on visiting?"

"Oh I actually wasn't planning that at all."

"...What?"

"I thought that you'd get home by legs, but you know the rest."

"Yeah that Basil just got out and he might have trouble with going by himself, but I meant visiting Kel-"

"We're home! Your friends can stay as long as they want."
