'i learned the right price only through tears,
i dont wanna let you go,
is there no turning back, no time?'

'saturday 19th november, 14:31pm.'

JIHYE prods at her food with a fork, feeling the awkward atmosphere simmer around her, as jungwon sits opposite her, simply staring into her soul.

pink suits her. he likes her little gold hoop earrings, too. she looks nice, but she also looks undeniably uncomfortable. they haven't talked the past week at school, but she catches his guilty looks, and it did nothing but confuse her.

minji and gyuvin talk, smiling a little too much and talking a little too loud. jihye can tell that they've done this on purpose.

she just doesn't know it was jungwon's idea.

she opens her mouth to protest as minji and gyuvin scurry away, left in the arcade with jungwon and untouched kimbap that she suspects she's lost the appetite for now.

"you should eat that." he hums, somewhat awkwardly, yet, in efforts to start some form of conversation. but jihye barely looks at him, nodding in response as she scrolls on her phone.

he knows he's fucked up badly, because she won't even look him in the eye. he clears his throat, moving towards a pink gift bag he was holding earlier. "i got you something."

jihye looks at him softly, eyes brimming with confusion, aswell as a little bit of vulnerability. he hands her the gift bag, and she incredulously peeps inside.

lychee jelly drink. her favourite. three of them. loads of snacks, most of them her favourites. she opens her mouth to say something, but he interrupts.

"im sorry, jihye. im so, so, sorry." he sighs, ruffling his hair. his eyes are soft, almost pleading, and he sounds 100% genuine. "i reacted to literal rumours so immaturely. ive just been so on edge since.. minjun, and i didn't want people to find out about me and baking. i know its not an excuse, it's just-" he sighs, as she looks down at the table, not one bit responsive to his words.

"did you mean it?" she eventually speaks up.

he frowns, a look of confusion spread across his features. "mean what..?"

"when you said i didn't have a place here." she hums, as if those words meant nothing, as if she didn't spend hours sobbing her eyes out over him. she looks over to look him in the eye, and his orbs soften, his eyebrows relaxing with a look of guilt.

"no." he speaks softly, sadly, almost pleadingly. "no, i didn't mean it. you do have a place here, and its with me. I feel so powerful and fearless when I'm with you, its like- like your energy is contagious. you don't have to forgive me, just-"

she snickers, biting into her kimbap. "you're an idiot. how can I not forgive you when you're staring at me like a kicked puppy?"

he flushes, clearing his throat, as he shifts in his seat. "im just.."

"sorry. I know. its okay."

he frowns, feeling more and more upset at himself by the minute. "no. no, its not."

she sighs, putting her chopsticks down. "jungwon?"

"..yeah?" he begins, apprehensively.

"im moving houses."

he almost spits out his water at that, almost panicked. "wait. WHAT???"

"yeah, my parents are splitting. I'm going with my dad, who's most likely, well, going to america."

"oh." he mutters half heartedly, before forcing a smile. "excited?"

"kinda, yeah." she smiles a little, lying through her teeth. he doesn't need to know her dilemma, or her problems. he won't care, and she doesn't need him to care. they're only talking to solve whatever happened to minjun, and they're only finishing the case because they started it.

he hides his disappointment by bringing his phone out, simply staring at the picture of maeum on his new wallpaper. what the fuck did he just hear, and why is he so disappointed?

she suddenly stands, grabbing the bag he gave her as well as her own handbag, as jungwon follows suit. the two ramble on about the case, going into detail about their insanely unrealistic ideas and theories. jungwon brings his phone out, ready to show her the screenshots he acquired. but she stands in front of a claw machine, frowning in concentration in efforts to win her favourite character:

kuromi.

he can't help but smile a little to himself, snapping a quick little candid picture.

they're fine now, but it doesn't mean he has to rush back into working on the case.

for now, he'll enjoy the time he has with jihye while it lasts.

he really owes gyuvin for this one.

jungwon puts his phone in his pocket, leaning from behind her. he moves her hand out of the way, and manuvers the control stick. hes so close to her she can feel breathing.

she watches the kuromi plushie roll out of the machine, as he begins walking ahead, as if he didnt almost give her a heart attack.

the tension still remains, but its different this time.
