Chapter Five

Sometimes all you really need are good friends.

If there was anything I loved in the world after Emily...

"Would you guys like to see some constellations I found recently after the movie?" I ask excitedly as they were all talking round the island in the kitchen in my house.

...it's astronomy

They all look at me with uncertainty before Skai answers "That would be great but I think we should save that for the camping trip!" she chirps.

"I agree it would be so much cooler out in the forest or by the lake" Emily agrees.

Just then, the microwave beeps and I walk over to it, taking the last bowl of popcorn out and placing it on the Island.

If Emily thinks so then It's fine by me "Okay" I beam at her. I'm completely helpless when it comes to her.

"So," Skai starts "To be sure, we're all going for the trip, right?"

"I'm going" Emily smiles, but I could see a glint of pain in her eyes, is her dad causing trouble for her again? I told her she could stay with me till he gets his act together but she keeps refusing the offer.

I can't think properly knowing, she's under the same roof with the monster that is her own father.

"Me too" I throw a popcorn in my mouth, answering the question Skai had directed to us all.

"You already know I'm going" River laughs when Skai looks at him accusingly.

We all turn to Dexter

"Well?" Skai pressures and Dexter scratches the back of his head.

He looks down nervously, playing with his fingers "I don't know"

"Why not?" Emily lifts a brow at him "You literally persuaded me" she lets out a little laugh.

"You know with my mom being sick and my sister not opening my e-mails, there'd be no one to take care of her" he tells us.

Oh.

I push the popcorn aside and lean on the island "I mean we could always stay and not go" I tell him.

"Yeah!" Skai claps "Sleepover at the Bardo crib" she twirls.

"No, no" Dexter smiles but I could see the sadness in his eyes "I haven't made the decision yet, my mom doesn't really want me spending my years with her in the hospital" he frowns

"But that aside, let's watch the movie!" he instantly has a big smile plastered on his face.

After the movie, everyone was practically asleep, well except for me and River, I don't know how people manage to sleep through movies, I mean, it was literally made to be experienced.

Falling asleep is just cutting the experience short.

We were all on our huge movie mattress —After Skai, Emily and Dexter falling asleep during numerous of our movie nights, we decided to get one to save River and I the pain of moving three humans up the stairs all the timeEmily is snuggled in my chest, at one end of the mattress, Dexter is next to me with Skai's hand over his face and River is at the other end on his phone, probably stalking celebrities.

I wasn't expecting to sleep anytime soon, I had a special case of insomnia, I fall asleep at the crack of dawn to the alluring smell of my girlfriend's vanilla shampoo.
