Sometimes, it's the people you least expect.
EMILY SOLARIS
My eyes flutter open.
What the hell just happened.
I slowly sit up on the bed trying to focus my eyes on something.
"Emily you're up!" I turned my head at the voice and saw River sitting on a chair by the bed next to me.
"You good?" he asks and I nod.
"What did those girls do to you?" he throws another question.
I just woke up could he try to calm down.
Then it hit me.
Earlier that day in serum making class.
We had just finished with the class, I was packing my things and preparing to leave, when these two girls came up to me.
"Edelay is it?" The red head asked, she was stunning to say the least.
"Emily" I corrected her looking down, I wasn't really good at making friends, or talking to strangers, it made me anxious.
"Not the point" she lifted me chin up "You look at me when I'm talking to you"
I started fidgeting with my fingers nervously, trying to keep eye contact with her, I couldn't let her see how anxious I really was. "who are you?" I gave her a small smile.
"That's not for you to know you dumblebee" the brunette huffed, dumblebee... is that supposed to be an insult? What type of fifth grade bullying is this?
"So how can I help you" I smiled at them regardless, but I really wished they would get to the point.
"Look Edelay or whatever you call yourself" the redhead chirped, she literally just heard my name, now she's just being rude.
"Stay away from our boyfriends or else" she caressed my cheek tucking my hair behind my ear "you and I are going to have serious problems" she added.
I let out a sigh trying my best not to stutter "I don't even know your boyfriends, I think you've got the wrong person"
she cocked her head at the brunette "Shut her up"
I was about to comment on how I would appreciate if they could let me go to my next class but I couldn't speak.
"You're going to get everything you deserve for trying to steal him from me" she gave me an innocent smile and proceeded to caress my cheek again, suddenly pain bolted through my body, it seethed through every vain. It felt as if my limbs were being torn apart but I couldn't scream I couldn't shout, I couldn't move. I felt myself growing dizzy, everything was getting blurry.
I didn't even notice when River came into the class, until he began speaking to me.
I told River everything that happened.
"Don't tell Elijah about this" I warn him and he nods without asking any questions. "I won't but Dexter has probably already ran that tap he calls a mouth" he shrugs and I groan.
I really didn't need Elijah on this matter, he'll overthink and I don't want him to worry, we need to focus on going home.
"Come on, I'm going to assume your legs are working now, we need to get to the library before this period comes to an end." He hurries me.
"Why?" I ask.
"Because Y has two branches and a stick" he rolled his eyes sarcastically before giving me a real answer "We came here for information, didn't we?"
"Oh yeah"
We arrive at the library and River does most of the talking to the librarian. He told her that we were on our free period and wanted to study, well that was mostly the truth.
I didn't have a free period right now, or today at all, but I was already late to my class so what did it matter. Besides, they don't take caregiving class attendance seriously.
We searched through the library, getting to know it better and the location of each kind of book, to make it easier for us in the future.
"Now that we have this place mapped out, I was thinking we could start with potions and serums" he suggests.
"Why? Thought we were focusing on history books?" I tilt my head at him in confusion "And something to help Lijah"
"We're looking for something that can either help us find our ancestry line or teleport to them" he whispers in my ear explaining his reason and I nod in understanding.
Soon enough we had a bunch of books in front of us and we were desperately reading through them hoping to find something that would help.
"Disappearing potion" I read out loud "Would that help?" I look up at River and he takes a moment to think. "I don't think so, but it wouldn't hurt to write it down" he shrugs
I had gone through two books by the time the beep went off.
This is moving slower than I thought, all I had was Disappearing potion and an invisibility potion.
"Lunch time Riv" I whisper out to him "I don't know about you but if I don't eat, I'm going to lose my consciousness for the second time today" I feign helplessness.
He chuckled lowly and nodded his head closing the book he was on.
"Okay okay, let's go, we should borrow some of these" he suggests and I nod picking four up, knowing I wouldn't be able to go through more than that this night.
River picks up about six or so books and we walk over to the librarian.
"It's so nice to see more students making use of the library books" she mumbles under her breath with a small smile as we sign for the books by getting out finger print scanned.
We smile at her in gratitude and make our way to the dining hall.
