Everything is not what it seems.

SKAI LADISTON

"Are you sure about this D?" I ask Dexter as he pulls me outside after breakfast.

"uhhh" he hesitates "Not necessarily but I could've sworn it worked yesterday" he blurts out.

Dexter claims that he can connect to nature, I find that very hard to believe but that wouldn't be the craziest thing that's happened here.

Here...I said here...is there somewhere else I should be thinking of?

"Just watch, okay?" he instructs as he gets on his knees, breaking me out of my thoughts, he places his hands on the ground in front of him, doing some sort of meditation.

I wait patiently watching him and then I see it, flowers started blooming around us, small little cute flowers.

"What the monkey pops!" my hands fly over my mouth in shock and Dexter stands up.

"Crazy, isn't it?" he beams "I've been spending a lot of time outside lately and yesterday after scire it just happened."

"That is so cool!" I shriek jumping up and down clapping my hands.

"I'm pretty cool" he shrugs smugly then laughs, joining me in jumping and clapping.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night" I chuckle planting my butt on the ground.

"It helps me sleep wonderfully well little Ladiston" he smirks playfully.

"I'm not little" I punch him lightly with a fake frown before quickly switching my demeanor to one of excitement "So does that mean you can grow a tree or move plants?" I ask him

"Nah, this is all I can really do, but I want to try doing more, I'm gonna see how much I can do" he smiles and I nod.

"That's so cool Dex, I wonder what I can do" I sigh.

So far Elijah was the only one who could do something and now Dexter. We're not sure about River because we read that it isn't possible for a sprite to drown in the lake of life.

Maybe my superpowers will come soon, it's just a matter of time.

"Being a sprite is so cool" I giggle "I can't imagine being any other creature.

"Like a chorling for example, their lifestyle feels so restrictive" Dexter shudders "They're weird, I wonder how they look in real life"

"I don't know, I think they're beautiful" I shrug "Just misunderstood" I pause turning to face him "Think about it, the sprites fought them because they were powerful..." I trail off biting my lip a little "how is that their fault? I think the sprites were just jealous"

"Or scared" Dexter shrugs.

"But seriously, I fuck with them, they can literally connect with their younglins Dexter, they seem to be very caring creatures" I shrug "Imagine meeting your mom, you don't know who she is, but you feel it" I push "it doesn't get cooler than that."

"I can't imagine..." he trails off "Okay okay, I guess they're sort of cool" he chuckles staring into my eyes and I beam, glad that I got him to see it from my point of view.

We sit outside, talking about everything and nothing, before we remember we have to find the ingredients. Mrs. Bolvera was kind enough to lend us her transaction card. She's probably sick of our presence here if we're being real, we've overstayed our welcome

"We should go back inside the others might be looking for us" Dexter tells me standing up.

I nod and reach my hand out, he grabs it, pulling me up.
