Chapter Twenty-Four

It's okay to not be okay

DEXTER BARDO

"So much for friends" I mumble falling to the floor at a corner in the hallway five, no one is ever here, it's the perfect place to sulk.

I bring my knees up to my chest, resting my head on them and desperately trying not to think about it.

I try to think up good memories we may have shared together and very few came up, No moment before we began Lucraci came to my mind.

Just shows how great our friendship is!

Sarcasm intended.

That is a little odd though, I should at least have something.

"Dexter!" Skai's voice bellowing through the hall, instantly breaks me away from my thoughts and I lift my head up.

"Something is wrong with Emily" she tells me and I put my head back down.

"As long as she's alive, I'm sure she's good" I mumble.

"Dexter, you have to listen to me" I feel her presence as she sits in front of me.

"Why?" I ask.

"I'm sorry okay, I thought Emily was sick and you were just being rude" she sighs.

Of course she did, no one ever cares to know how I feel.

"I think she is being controlled by Amari" Skai continues when she receives no response from me. "Think about it, Amari is technically old enough to gain her skills and none of us know what any of the Bolvera's skills are"

Wait that actually makes sense.

"Is that what Emily said?" I ask

"No, she could barely tell us anything, she kept saying Amari told her to do this and that, she couldn't even tell us about her skills because Amari told her not to"

That does sound suspicious.

"You think other forces might be at play?" I ask, I'd honestly take Skai's word for it despite how hurt my feelings are, if Skai says that's how it is then that's how I'll take it.

"Yeah" she sighs. "We need to figure this out, you know Emily isn't the kind of person to do that"

"You're right" I agree "It still hurt my feelings though"

"I would be hurt too" she engulfs me in a hug and I bask in her warmth, she smells amazing, is that lavender? She continues talking breaking me free from my thoughts yet again "But this time we need to stand by each other, we're the only ones we can trust remember?" she withdraws from the hug, taking my hands in hers.

"You're smarter than you let on Skai" I chuckle.

"Ha ha ha very funny" she rolls her eyes, shaking my hands of hers.

"Wait" it hit me "Emily gained her skill?"

"Yes OMG Dexter, she has fire powers" Skai squeals.

"Wait what?!" I jump to my feet. "That is so cool!"

"I know right, that's what I said!" she giggles.
