The long-distance bus bumped along the mountain road, and the passengers inside were drowsy and quiet.

Yao Ziqing had his headphones on, his elbow resting on the window ledge with his hand supporting his chin as he gazed out at the receding scenery. His slightly lowered eyes were calm.

At the beginning of his rebirth, despite missing his family, he didn't dare to go home immediately. He wasn't sure how to explain any unusual changes if they noticed them.

Fortunately, he had been reborn during the holidays, with no one around, giving him enough time to gradually adjust from the end times.

Now, as he got closer to his second brother's location, it was different from what he had imagined—surprisingly calm.

He had considered making up a story about the end times to tell his second brother, such as a prophecy from a dream or a message from ancestors. With the space ring, even such a strange tale would likely be believed.

He could then give the ring to his second brother, believing it would be more useful in his hands than in his own.

Unfortunately, this plan never came to fruition.

As for whether to tell his second brother about the end times, Yao Ziqing had never thought about hiding it; he just wondered how to present it.

He would never speak of his rebirth to anyone and would keep it buried deep in his heart.

Cheng Hui was momentarily taken aback when he received a call from the gate guard, but quickly understood. He told the guard to bring the person to the reception room and went to meet him.

Cheng Hui had not graduated from a military academy but had risen to his position through the military after enlisting.

Two years ago, a newly graduated lieutenant was transferred to their unit. They generally disliked such "junior" soldiers, akin to "young recruits" in their eyes.

It was like how traditionalists look down on unconventional paths, and vice versa.

However, Lei Xiao changed his view of "junior soldiers." Despite his calm and unassuming demeanor, Lei Xiao had a formidable presence that was more imposing than his build might suggest.

After facing Lei Xiao in combat, Cheng Hui saw him in a new light. Although he was just a four-year military academy graduate, he was on par with those who had been in the army for over a decade. Despite having a privileged background, the records showed he was just a child from a rural area.

Unfortunately, Cheng Hui's interest in Lei Xiao as a junior officer was short-lived because he was soon transferred to a special unit.

In just one year, Lei Xiao's rapid growth astonished Cheng Hui.

Whenever Lei Xiao wasn't on a mission, Cheng Hui enjoyed training with him and, after building a friendship, would often invite him out for a drink during vacations, even though Lei Xiao was always abstinent.

Despite Lei Xiao's typically cold demeanor and lack of conversation, he was not difficult to get along with, provided he didn't dislike you.

Cheng Hui was aware of Lei Xiao's family situation: an elderly grandmother, an older brother, and two younger brothers. They all shared the same surname.

However, those close to him knew that Lei Xiao's most cherished relative was his cousin.

The special unit was not under their military district but was located in the same compound.

When the guard mentioned looking for Lei Xiao, Cheng Hui was momentarily confused but quickly realized it must be Lei Xiao's precious younger brother.

Lei Xiao looked up at the person knocking at the door and handed the folder to someone beside him.
