Ishani was getting ready for college, her hands moving mechanically as her mind raced with a storm of emotions. The worry she had been trying to suppress since the news about Kabir's return was now pounding in her chest. Her appetite had vanished, so she skipped breakfast, ignoring her mother’s concerned voice.

Arriving at college, she felt a wave of unease. She scanned the usual spots, but Kabir was nowhere to be seen. Her thoughts were a chaotic mess when suddenly, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Kabir—the first since his return. He wanted to meet her, at the same place by the lake where he had once proposed. The place that held memories she wasn’t sure she was ready to face.

Ishani stared at the message, her heart hammering in her chest. After a moment, she texted Aarohi and Siya, letting them know she wouldn’t be attending classes and would catch up with them afterward. With a deep breath, she started making her way to the lake, hoping she was ready for what was about to come.

As Ishani reached the lake, she saw Kabir standing by the water, his gaze lost in the rippling waves. The familiar place, once filled with warmth, now felt heavy with uncertainty. Taking a deep breath, she walked towards him and softly called out, "Kabir."

He turned, and the moment their eyes met, he moved towards her and wrapped her in a tight hug. Ishani froze, her heart racing as she tried to process the unexpected embrace. This was not the confrontation she had prepared herself for. And then she felt it—the shudder of his sobs against her.

Kabir's voice broke through the silence, choked with emotion. "I’m sorry, Ishani. I’m so sorry," he whispered, repeating the words like a mantra. He held her tighter, as if afraid she would slip away if he let go.

Ishani’s mind was spinning, caught between the urge to pull away and the need to understand. She heard him continue, his voice raw with desperation. "In all these days, when I wasn’t with you, I realized... no one cares for me like you do. No one loves me the way you do. You’re the one for me, Ishani. Please, forgive me one last time."

Kabir pulled back slightly, just enough to look into her eyes. His face was a mess of tears and regret. "If I ever hurt you again, if I make another mistake, you can leave me right then and there. But please, just give me this chance."

Ishani’s heart ached at the sight of his vulnerability, the weight of his words pressing down on her. She wanted to speak, to say everything that had been building up inside her, but for now, she stood there, holding onto the moment, unsure of what to do next.

Her  heart felt heavy as she listened to Kabir’s tearful plea. The love she once felt for him had faded, replaced by a dull ache and the remnants of hope she had clung to for so long. Yet, as she looked into his eyes, filled with regret and desperation, she found herself hesitating.

Her mind raced with conflicting thoughts. Maybe this could work?one last time... she reasoned with herself. She had poured so much of her heart and soul into this relationship, holding on to the belief that love could conquer all. If a last chance could make things right, perhaps it was worth taking.

But even as she considered it, an uncertainty lingered within her—a resolve that hadn’t been there before. She wasn’t the same girl who had blindly given her heart away. If she chose to give Kabir another chance, it would be on her terms. She was no longer willing to tolerate disrespect or betrayal.

She took a deep breath, trying to find the right words to say, knowing that whatever decision she made would shape the course of her future.

Ishani finally pulled back from the hug, creating a small space between them. She looked up at Kabir, who was still wiping away tears, his face etched with guilt and vulnerability. For a moment, neither of them spoke, the silence stretching between them like a fragile thread.
