2006
The children all walked out of the house into the snow, black umbrellas in their hands.
Tears streamed down Y/n's cheeks, having to keep silent due to Reginald's coldness. Vanya also cried quietly, feeling the pain in her heart aswell.
The family came to a stop at Ben's white casket, his picture on it with a tentacle frame.
Diego glanced over at Y/n briefly, watching a tear fall as sympathy washed over him.
"Your father is ready to give the eulogy, children." Pogo softly said.
Reginald began to speak, no emotion in his voice "The world is full of injustice. Good people die along with the bad. This cosmic equation will never change unless evil itself is wiped from existence. Thankfully, there are powerful forces pushing back against the wicked and iniquitous, individuals who have the strength to pull together against insurmountable odds to face adversity with unblinking courage, and not to hesitate to sacrifice themselves for another."
Y/n wiped a tear, already knowing where this was going as Reginald continues.
"Unfortunately, none of you are such people. Despite weeks of training and weeks of preparation, you allowed Number Six to die on this mission."
Y/n let out an audible sob. Allison gasped and looked at Reginald "It wasn't our fault!"
"Excuses!" Reginald spoke over the sobs Y/n was trying to hold back "I will not hear them. The Umbrella Academy has failed one of their own, the consequences of which are dire." Reginald suddenly raised his voice "Number Eight, will you please shut up."
Y/n quietened her sobs, holding them back as tears continue to stream, Klaus putting his hand out to hold hers.
Reginald looked around at the children "Hold on to this feeling, children. Let it fester in your hearts. . ." Klaus began sniffling aswell as Reginald said "So there is never a next time. Training will be canceled today out of respect for your brother. We resume tomorrow at 6:00am."
Reginald walked back inside, Grace and Pgog following as Y/n dropped her umbrella and Klaus pulled her into a hug, dropping his umbrella aswell as they sobbed into each others shoudlers.
The rest of the siblings began sobbing softly as they stared at Ben's casket. Vanya looked at them all "It wasn't anybodies fault."
Diego looked at her "How would you know, Vanya? You weren't even on the mission."
Vanya sobbing quietly and walked away, making Luther look at Diego "Nice going, asshole."
"What? We were all thinking it." Diego replied.
"Oh, so you're thinking, Diego?" Allison spike angerly "That's a first."
"Screw you!" Diego shouts.
Luther instantly got defensive "Hey!" The three began walking off as they argued "Dad was right. We should've done more. This didn't have to happen."
Klaus and Y/n pulled away, just the two of them now. Y/n sobbed, sniffling, as she knelt down next to the casket, ignoring the cold snow on her skin.
