Chapter 3- First day, First Date
OMNISCIENT POV: 5:30 AM, Los Angeles, CA September 2nd, 2024
Devyn's begins to wake up as his alarm goes off. It was their first day of school and neither him nor Zuri wanted to be late. He turned off his alarm and sat up, taking off his black bonnet which he used to protect his hair as he slept.
He stood up and went to use the bathroom and do his morning routine: Brush his teeth, wash his face, and fix his hair. He walk back into his room to change and check the time. He turned on his phone and the time read 5:55. He got dressed in the outfit he had planned out the night before, a black crew neck and light blue baggy jeans with a pair of white shoes. He made his way downstairs to see that Zuri was already sitting at the table eating breakfast. Zuri was dressed in a fall themed flannel with light brown baggy jeans and an expensive pair of black shoes. Devyn walked to the freezer and popped a waffle in the air fryer.
"Good morning to you too", Zuri said as she rolled her eyes at Devyn just walking past her without saying anything. Devyn smiled. "Wsp", he spoke as he took his waffle out to eat it. Suddenly Devyn's mom walks in. "He guys." She said as she put her purse on the counter. She was dressed in a females business suit as she worked in sales for a small starter tech company.
"Morning mom." "Good morning Angela." Devyn and Zuri greeted her. "I have to go a bit early today but make sure you guys don't miss the bus. Your father needs the other car today so you won't be able to drive until he wakes up at 8. Remember it comes by the end of the block at 6:40." Devyn's mom spoke as she typed onto her phone. Truthfully neither Devyn nor Zuri had forgotten where or what time the bus came as Angela had been ingraining into their brains all week.
"Alright mom. You better get your ass to work now before YOU'RE the one that's late." Devyn joked, putting emphasis on the 'you're'. Devyn's mom laughed. "Yeah you're right. Later kids." Angela said picking up her bag and car keys and heading out the door. "Bye", Devyn and Zuri replied as she walked out the door.
"It's only 6:11 so imma chill for a bit", Zuri said walking toward the living room, Devyn close behind. "What are we supposed to do for 30 minutes? I'm bored", Devyn said sitting on the couch with his feet in the arm of it. "I don't know... pull out your phone and hop on Brawl." Brawl stars was Zuri and Devyn's favorite past time when they were bored. They weren't bums at the game (as in they play for 5+ hours straight) but they were fairly decent and enjoyed playing it. To them, it was simple fun. "BRO WHAT THE FUCK IS OUT TEAMMATE DOING!?" Devyn exclaimed as he died again due to his teammates incompetence. "I actually don't fucking know but it's pissing me off.." Zuri replied as she continued to fight. Soon enough they lost the game, and as always (even when it wasn't their fault) they blamed their teammates for their loss. Zuri checked the time on her watch: 6:33. "I think it's about time for us to leave now." Zuri said standing up and grabbing her backpack. Devyn also stood up, grabbing his backpack and heading to the door. As they walked out Devyn locked the door up and they made their way down the block.
