Chapter 22- Tristian's a Problem..
3 weeks later— November 1st/ Friday/ 9:34 PM/ MHHS Football Field....
(Marty's) Omniscient POV:
Marty took off his helmet, heaving from the action of the game. This game was the closest another team had come to winning against him in 5 years—and it was all because he couldn't focus for 3 whole seconds without his eyes flashing over to Devyn. He saw Tristian next to him. Laughing. Smiling. Doing all of the things he should be making Devyn do.
But he looked over and saw another black kid with bleached dreads who also talked and laughed with Devyn. All the while Devyn was blushing with the both of them. Marty could practically feel his blood boil.
"Yo dude! You aight?" Akire said jogging over to Marty. Akire had actually been the MVP of this game and even scored the winning touchdown, causing people to exchange confused glances in the crowd. Marty stood up fully as he looked over at Akire.
"Yeah.. I'm fine.." he replied before walking into the locker room. Akire followed closely behind, basically chasing after him to catch up.
"Dawg you're not 'fine'. It's been like a month and you've been acting weird since your first game back. What the fuck is the problem?" Akire as as they kept walking. Marty didn't even stop or look behind him at Akire. Hearing Akire talk made him even more mad—even if what he was saying was true.
"Bro.. have you not been talking your meds?.." Akire asked as he stopped. Marty stopped walking too. He looked down at his hands. Marty's fingers trembled as he stared down at them, a memory creeping back into his mind like an unwelcome shadow. The day he'd first been diagnosed—those hours in the sterile doctor's office with his parents' worried glances—felt like another lifetime. He'd hated the feeling, the idea that he needed something outside of himself to stay in control.

Amarion and his parents sat in the waiting room of Isaiah Memorial Hospital. His brother, Andre, was quickly rushed to the ER after an accident at their house. His parents sat next to each other whist crying. Amarion looked down at his hands. They were slightly covered in blood, but most of all, they had this unstoppable shake to them.
He looked over at his parents. They both sat a seat away from him as if he was a monster. A doctor walked out of the double doors with a clipboard and pen in hand.
"Mr and Mrs. Telopez?" He called out. Marty's parents stood up quickly.
"I.. y-yes.. that would be us." Vivienne, Amarion's mom, said wiping her tears. The doctor then started talking to them, Amarion sat still as his parents and the doctor talked, his mom occasionally translating for his dad, Alejandro.
