Chapter 23- The Reach Out

November 2nd/ Saturday/ 1:34 AM/ Elijah's Apartment....

(Marty's) Omniscient POV:

"You did what?!" Elijah asked with concern as he handed Marty a frozen bag of pizza rolls to put on his knuckles.

Marty was now at Elijah's house as Elijah had just gotten off of work. He drove around the city for a few hours in anticipation for him getting off. The night replaying in his head the entire time.

The second Elijah got off work Marty came to pick him back up to chill at his house. Over the past few weeks the two had become extremely close. Marty felt so comfortable telling Elijah everything about his life and how he felt—things he hadn't opened up on since Devyn.

"I... I don't know.. I saw him and then I stopped thinking.." Marty said, sitting down on the couch and placing the bag on his knuckles. Elijah sighed sitting next to him.

"And what if he tells Devyn?" Elijah asked as he rolled up a joint. Marty stayed quiet for a moment.

"He won't." He replied matter-a-factly. Elijah lit the now rolled up blunt as he passed it to Marty.

"You need first puff this time." He said as he picked up the TV remote. Marty took the joint, taking a large inhale of the brown paper.

"Have you even talked to Devyn since the breakup?" Elijah asked. Marty paused. "I thought about it.. but I just never do it." Marty stated.

Elijah exhaled a thin line of smoke, glancing over at Marty with raised eyebrows. "So you're just...waiting for him to come back on his own or something?"

Marty shrugged, his gaze fixed on the floor. "I don't know, man. Every time I think about reaching out, I just...freeze up. It's like I'm back at square one, and it feels easier to stay quiet."

Elijah nodded, leaning back against the couch. "I get it. But you know, the longer you wait, the harder it's gonna get. I mean, you can't keep running into guys like Tristian and expecting that to be enough." He flicked ash off the joint. "Devyn deserves to hear from you."

Marty took another hit, letting the smoke linger in his lungs before slowly exhaling. "Maybe. But what if I just make things worse? I already messed up once, you know?"

Elijah shook his head. "You're overthinking it. If he's really that important to you, you gotta take a chance and talk to him. Worst-case scenario, he's not ready to hear it—but at least you'll know you tried. Better than going around picking fights in parks like you're Batman or something."

A faint smirk broke through Marty's tense expression. "I don't know about Batman. More like...an idiot who can't handle his own feelings."

Elijah laughed, slapping him on the back. "Hey, we've all been there. Just...maybe think about what you actually want, for real. If Devyn matters this much, put it out there. No more sideline stuff. If you wanna fight for him, do it with your words—not your fists."
