H A N N I

"Do not try anything unless you want your microscopic penis kicked in public," I smiled sweetly at Guwon, watching as he cleared his throat and quickly removed his hand from my back.

He knew me well enough to understand I wouldn’t hesitate to follow through on my threat.

Company dinners were among the many things I hated. Tonight, it was to celebrate the company reaching its goals and, of course, the grand opening of yet another Jeon family hotel. Their seventh one, if I wasn’t mistaken.

"At least try to be nice to me in public," Guwon whispered, still smiling as if we were having a lovely conversation. "What if someone overhears and starts those rumours again?"

I sighed, rolling my eyes before stepping away from him. The very sight of him made my skin crawl.

"Mrs. Jeon, how have you been?" I turned to see Jaehyun, one of Guwon’s childhood friends, approaching us with a smug smile.

I fought back the urge to roll my eyes again and forced a smile. "I've been good, thank you."

"Would you like a drink?" Jaehyun offered me his glass, his eyes glinting with something I couldn’t quite place. Typical.

"I can’t drink," I replied curtly, declining his offer.

"Oh? And why is that?" He asked, sounding genuinely surprised.

I glanced at him briefly before clarifying. "I'm pregnant."

His eyes widened for a split second before he quickly masked his surprise. "Oh, I apologize, Mrs. Jeon."

"It's Hanni," I said, gritting my teeth.

"Sorry?" Jaehyun looked genuinely confused.

"My name is Hanni," I repeated more firmly, my patience wearing thin as I stepped away from him, too.

There were only so many entitled, condescending men I could tolerate in one night. God, I hated these company events.

As I moved through the crowded dining hall, I couldn't help but feel suffocated by the weight of expectations pressing down on me.

The whispers, the fake smiles, the constant scrutiny—it was unbearable. Everyone here saw me as Mrs. Jeon, the wife of the heir to the Jeon and Pham empire.

I reached for a glass of water, my fingers trembling slightly. Maybe it was the stress, or maybe it was the baby. Either way, I felt completely out of place. I never imagined my life turning out like this—married to a man I could barely stand, trapped in a world I wanted no part of. But there was no escape. Not now.

I glanced over at Guwon, who was entertaining his guests with that fake smile of his. He was always so perfect in public—charming, attentive, the ideal husband in everyone’s eyes. But behind closed doors, it was a different story.

I felt a wave of nausea hit me, both from the pregnancy and from the overwhelming disgust I had for this life. I placed my hand over my stomach, trying to ground myself in the moment.

Just then, I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned to see Mrs. Hong, one of the older ladies who had been part of the company for years. She was a kind woman, but I could already sense what she was about to ask.

"How’s the pregnancy going, dear?" she asked with a polite smile.

I plastered on a smile of my own. "It’s going well. Thank you for asking."

"How lovely. You must be so excited for the little one," she cooed, patting my arm as if we were close friends. "And Guwon must be over the moon to become a father."
