M I N J IWhy the hell did I do that?
How could I make her feel exactly like I did?
Why did I leave?
The thought of her having a happy family—one for show, a child growing inside her, and everything else I had tried to push away, flooded my mind. I pulled away.
And I rushed out like the coward I am.
Pacing the hotel hallway wasn’t helping because, eventually, I’d have to face Hanni again.
We kissed.
It felt like I was dying from an overdose, craving more, but I couldn’t make myself follow through. It was reckless and immature, but now it’s too late to take it back.
No matter the circumstances, Hanni was still cheating on Guwon—with me.
I should’ve cared more, but I didn’t. I just didn’t want to be reduced to some hidden affair. Deep down, something told me that’s where this was headed.
Because why would she divorce him for me? Would she?
No, no. She couldn’t. They were having a baby together. This was all so confusing.
I ran a hand through my hair, sighing as I stared at the hotel room door. She should be asleep by now.
I went back inside, the door clicking softly behind me, only to find the room dark, dimly lit by the glow coming from the bathroom.
I took a step forward, then stopped. There were sounds coming from inside. Crying.
Without thinking, I rushed to the door and opened it, finding Hanni crouched near the toilet, her hands clutching her stomach, her face pale.
"Hanni—God, are you okay?" I panicked, immediately pulling her into my arms.
"The cramps," she whimpered, her voice tight with pain. "Just the cramps."
My heart twisted as I held her closer. "I'm so sorry. Come here," I whispered, helping her up carefully and leading her toward the bed.
"Did you bring the medicine?" I asked, my voice laced with urgency. Hanni nodded weakly.
"In my bag," she mumbled.
I sat her down gently and rushed to her bag, unzipping it and rummaging through until I found the small plastic zip-lock with her pills inside.
I grabbed them, along with a glass from the minibar, filling it with water before rushing back to her side.
"Here, drink this," I said softly, holding the glass to her lips as she took small sips. I rubbed her back, hoping it would soothe her somehow.
"I'm so sorry, Han. Please, you can’t stress like this, it’s dangerous," I whispered, giving her the pills. She popped them into her mouth and washed them down with another gulp of water.
Sitting beside her, I brushed the hair from her face, my hand still rubbing gentle circles on her back. "Deep breaths, okay? I wish I could do more to help, but the cramps... they’ll happen a lot. Please stay careful."
