H A N N IMy mind hasn't been in the right place ever since—that.
Note to self: Do not follow Minji into a restroom unless you're prepared to stay for a while.
The evening was winding down, everyone enjoying themselves as the wedding festivities neared their end. Across the room, Minji wouldn't stop smiling at me, a mischievous glint in her eyes that made my heart race. I hate her. But I obviously don't.
The rest of the night passed by in a blur, mostly because I kept myself distracted with Danielle and Haerin.
I had to admit, this was one of the most extravagant weddings I'd ever attended. Luxurious flowers, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and the dance floor filled with people swaying to the music.
As the final toasts were being made, Guwon appeared by my side.
"I'm heading back to Busan. I'll drop you home," he offered casually.
Before I could respond, Minji appeared at my side, standing a little too close, her presence commanding my attention. Her face was calm, but I knew her too well; she was holding back something, perhaps a bit of jealousy or protectiveness.
I glanced at her briefly before focusing back on Guwon, who had turned his attention toward her.
"Hi, I don't think we've met," Guwon started, a hint of curiosity in his tone. "I know most of my wife's friends."
I almost rolled my eyes. No, he doesn’t.
He extended his hand toward Minji for a handshake, but after a long, awkward pause where she didn’t acknowledge it, he pulled it back with an uncomfortable chuckle.
Minji offered a small, polite smile before slipping her hand into mine, her fingers intertwining with mine like they belonged there. Warmth spread through me, and I could feel the corner of my lips fighting to curl into a smile.
"We should get going," she said softly, ignoring Guwon completely as she focused on me.
I nodded slightly, biting back the grin threatening to spill onto my face.
"You're leaving with your friend?" Guwon asked, his voice tinged with surprise.
"I'm staying another night," I replied firmly, avoiding his questioning gaze. "I'll head back to Busan tomorrow with her."
Before he could protest, our attention was pulled toward the ceremony's closing moments as Danielle and Haerin made their grand exit.
The lights dimmed, and the newlyweds walked arm in arm through a path of sparkling fireworks that shot up around them. Guests cheered, clapping and throwing flower petals into the air, the joy in the room palpable.
As soon as they were out of sight, I felt Minji’s gentle tug on my hand, urging me toward the exit.
We didn’t wait for Guwon to say anything more. With a quick glance over my shoulder, I left the reception hall, my hand still firmly clasped in Minji’s. It's funny how I was running away from my husband to spend the night with my lover.
We reached the parking lot, which was slowly emptying as guests drove off in their cars. Minji led me to hers, and without letting go of my hand, she opened the passenger door for me, her smile wide.
"Where are we going?" she asked, that familiar twinkle in her eyes as I slid into the seat.
"Back to the hotel, of course." I laughed lightly, settling in. She shut the door with a soft thud before hurrying around to the driver’s side.
