H A N N I

Should I send a simple hi or just text her the location?

Texting the location would be weird, right? Our last message was from five entire years ago. What if she unsaved my contact?

Do I have to tell her it’s me?

This is so frustrating.

I groaned, sitting up on my bed and grabbing my phone from the side table. I turned it on, typing Min into the search bar.

Her contact popped up.

God, it’s been so long.

I cleared my throat, sitting up straighter, as if that would somehow help. My fingers hovered over the keyboard.

A simple 'hi' with an introduction. That’ll do.

Me: Hi, this is Hanni.

I hit send and immediately shut off my phone, getting up from the bed to pace my room. I really do this too often.

No reply yet. Does she even check her phone?

But it's only been, what, five seconds since I sent that message? Makes sense that she hasn’t seen it yet.

My phone vibrated with a ding, and I nearly jumped to grab it—only to be let down when I saw it was just a random notification, not a text from Minji.

"She’s just busy, just busy," I muttered to myself, walking around the room.

It looked like Guwon had taken my threat seriously for once—his things were gone from the room. Finally.

Maybe he was the reason I couldn’t sleep all along.

I sighed, shaking off the thoughts of him. I should probably figure out what I’m going to wear.

Just a small lunch, Hanni. Wear something simple.

It took me thirty minutes to pick out something ‘simple.’

I settled on a loose, cream-colored blouse with slightly puffed sleeves, tucked into high-waisted, light-wash jeans.

The blouse was casual but stylish, its soft fabric draping comfortably over my figure. I chose white sneakers to complete the outfit, something comfortable enough for walking but still cute. I added small hoop earrings, simple but enough to feel put-together. I glanced in the mirror and let my hair loose.

I sighed, grabbing my phone from the side table and stepping out of my room, now just mine.

I made my way outside the penthouse, closing the door behind me. I greeted the hotel staff on my way to the elevator.

One of the guards pressed the button for me as I waited, lost in my thoughts. The elevator doors finally opened, and I stepped in.

Before I knew it, I was on the ground floor, stepping out and greeting more staff on my way out of the building. I headed toward the park where Minji and I had bumped into each other earlier.

The café I’d picked for our lunch was just a short three-minute walk from the hotel—and conveniently close to Minji’s apartment building too. Well, we are neighbours.

As I walked, I nervously turned my phone back on, hopeful that Minji had replied.

To my surprise, she had.

Minji: Sorry, Hanni. Can’t do lunch today. An emergency at the clinic came up.

The smile that had been on my face moments before vanished almost immediately. I slumped onto the nearest bench, feeling utterly deflated.
