Narrator

The bus was running a little late. You could feel the desperation and urgency of some of the passengers. Everyone was just trying to get to their destination at a decent time.

Finally, the bus came to a stop and a high school student rushed out of the bus.

"Geez, now what?!" Y/n groaned when they saw Haerin getting bullied outside her school.

"HEY!!" Y/n yelled at the bullies.

Everyone turned around in Y/n's direction and froze.

"I might be blind, but at least I'm not slow!" One of the kids kept teasing Haerin.

Y/n sighed and stepped up to tap the kid on the shoulder.

"I would appreciate it if you used your brain for something other than harassing your fellow classmates," Y/n coldly told the student.

"Y/n-ssi?" The student panicked when they got a hold of Y/n's uniform.

"Yup!" Y/n gave Haerin a smile.

"Run!" Another student squealed and the group dispersed.

- Y/N POV -

I never understood why in a school full of special needs students there were still bullies. You would think that everyone would be nice to each other because they know what it's like to struggle in this society, but I guess some people just weren't raised well.

"Y/n-nim!" Haerin ran up to hug me.

I never got why Haerin was extremely formal with my name, but I had no problem with it as long as she felt comfortable.

"I'm sorry for being late. The bus was running late because of a car accident," I explained myself.

"It's okay. You got here and that's all that matters," Haerin squeezed me tightly.

I hesitated to hug her back, but I couldn't resist myself.

I did my best to not let my heart get the better of me around Haerin. I knew nothing could happen between us. We were two different people.

It was bad enough that Haerin had to suffer because of who she was. I didn't want to add to that.

"Alright, let's sign you out and get the bus home," I gently pulled her away from me.

Haerin gave me a cute smile and we walked into her school to sign her out.

Minji's family had tasked me with taking care of Haerin. I would drop her off at school and pick her up. I would help her with homework and stay with her until someone got home.

I didn't really see why Haerin had to go to a special school. She was a good student, had good grades, understood perfectly well, and made friends pretty easily. Sure, she had her quirks but who didn't.

I guess the government had deemed Haerin as "special" since a child.

"Dammit, the bus!" I groaned in annoyance as we watched the bus drive off from our bus stop.

I figured since the buses were running late then I had time to check in with Haerin's homeroom teacher, but I guess I was wrong.

"It's fine. We'll just take the next one," Haerin was as positive as ever.

I gave her a smile and pulled out my phone to call her parents. Unfortunately, I hadn't charged my phone since the day before so now it was dead.

"Dammit," I groaned to myself.
