2006 (III) - K. HR x Reader

Narrator

The warm mist of a warm shower entered the room. Minji was brushing her little sister's hair after a calming night bath.

"Why are you being nice to me?" Haerin questioned.

Minji always did her best to show Haerin that she really loved her, but her behavior outside the home overshadowed her kindness.

Haerin never really felt like Minji was nice to her. Haerin only saw Minji as a nagging old sister that owned the heart of her crush.

"Y/n told me about those bullies today," Minji ignored Haerin's usual mood.

Minji knew that she sent mixed signals, but there was nothing she could do to change Haerin's mind.

At least not right now.

- Haerin POV -

"Did Y/n-nim say anything else?" I was curious on if Y/n talked about me to Minji unnie. I knew Sunbae reported back to Unnie and our parents but I always wondered if there was anything more than just the basics.

"Umm," I could see Unnie thinking from the vanity mirror.

"Y/n told me about how excited you were showing them your art project. They said it was cute," Unnie seemed to be teasing me.

"Me or the painting?" I asked a bit disappointed.

I knew Unnie saw me just like the rest of the world did. Just some clueless kid with weird behavior. She probably thought I was acting different on purpose too.

"Umm, both!" Unnie winked at me through the mirror.

My eyes went wide and my heart began to race. "Really?" I turned to ask.

"Mhm, Y/n always thinks you're cute. They're just too shy to say it sometimes," Minji unnie gave me a warm smile.

I shook my head, trying to stop myself from blushing.

"Do you still like them? Do you still like Y/n?" Unnie suddenly asked.

I kept my head down, a bit embarrassed. I knew my emotions easily showed on my face.

"You and Y/n do spend a lot of time together. I think Y/n probably enjoys spending time with you. Sometimes Y/n can get a little overzealous when talking about something you two did together. I don't really get it, but I can see why you like them," Unnie suddenly shared.

I froze for a second.

My eyes welled up with tears of joy when Minji said that Y/n maybe enjoys spending time with me too.

Sometimes, I felt like I was going crazy. I felt like maybe I was just imagining things or that I was just so naive that I didn't know the difference between someone being kind and someone doing me a favor.

I always worried that Y/n just saw me as a favor...

But maybe, I wasn't.

Maybe we mutually enjoyed our time together.

"Anyway, your hairs all braided. Now go to sleep. And don't cause Y/n too much trouble tomorrow. Y/n also has a livelihood to protect," Unnie said before walking out of my room.

I was happy at first...

But of course, Minji unnie had to remind me that I was different.

I always knew I caused people trouble. I knew I was just a charity case to Y/n-nim. I knew that if I made even one wrong move Y/n would look bad in front of everyone.
