(Day 500)
The clock ticked louder than usual in the dead restaurant - Stan swore he'd never heard the thing before.
The impending storm was deterring people from traveling on the roads, and he honestly couldn't blame them. High winds, and potential for hail would cause any sane person to stay indoors. Except for anyone who worked at Tucker's.
In the entire place, there were only three cooks working, a dishwasher, one manager and three servers; they didn't even bother to keep Bebe on the bar, there weren't enough people itching to day drink. And as much as Stan usually enjoyed the silence, he knew who was there that day.
Naturally, Kenny, Craig and Tweek were the only ones on the line, while it was just Stan, Kyle and Clyde in the front of the house. Tolkien was managing - but saying that was a lot since his idea of "managing" was sitting in the office on his ass all day - while David blasted music from the speaker in the dish pit. It would've been a good day if Stan hadn't been avoiding everyone like the plague. Again.
Since starting therapy last month, Stan took to secluding himself more often. Uncovering the truth about Wendy and Tolkien had him more fucked up than he could've imagined, on top of everything. He had to narrow down why this was disturbing him so much now; Stan was at the lowest he'd be in awhile.
Despite the fact that Kenny had been there to comfort him when he needed it, at the end of the day, he gladly went home to Tammy. Stan kept thinking that he was okay with all of this, but every damn day was different. The only thing that stayed the same was his endless pining for Kenny.
So, it was hard to focus at work that day.
Every time he walked into the kitchen, he'd see Kenny joking around, having a good time with the guys. And on a slow day, that was all Stan had to do to keep himself busy. He could only talk to Kyle so much, too. In fact, Kyle was trying to spend a little time with his boyfriend, David, and Stan was hovering at the corner, attempting to look as casual as possible. His ginger best friend wasn't having it though, he'd spent enough time trying to help Stan through his own hell.
"Dude," He leaned next to him on the wall by the dish tank, giving him a serious eye roll. "You know you're my super best friend forever, but you gotta, like, go do something else."
Realizing what he'd been doing, Stan slapped his forehead. "Ah! You're right. Sorry, sorry - sorry, David!"
It was more embarrassing than he would've liked, and since it was dead silent in the kitchen at the pause in a song, everyone heard his awkward apology. Stan slipped out the back door, avoiding the curious looks from the line.
Why do I have to fucking be like this? How do I give myself second-hand embarrassment?! He held his head in his hands as he sat on a random piece of cement. Stan felt like everything he did was wrong.
Glancing up at the sky, the darkness consuming the horizon filled him with a sense of belonging; nature wasn't the only thing that could be consumed by darkness. The difference between Stan and a storm, however, was their ability to move with their fates. The storm was fated to impact South Park, while Stan didn't even believe in fate.
Until he met Kenny, anyway.
But, even that didn't seem to matter. Stan hated it. Why did his fate project that he'd fall in love with someone who could never love him back? He couldn't figure it out.
Maybe, it was something he did in a past life - he didn't know what he believed in.
The rain started pouring down on him. Stan didn't bother to move, why would he? It not only felt comforting from the strength and coolness it brought, it also felt like the start to an evolution. He forgot, he was single, Stan didn't have to keep chasing after someone in a relationship. He thought, maybe, just maybe, if he put himself out there, he could find his soulmate. If Kenny had truly been his soulmate, wouldn't they be together? They were meant to be friends, Stan concluded. He would have to get over this stupid crush.
