Chapter Fifty Two - Loss

After the chaotic battle at Jaku City, Morbius along with Yaoyorozu and the other students began making their way back to the forest where they had fought Gigantomachia to check up on Midnight, Majestic and the other Pro Heroes. As they arrived at the forest, they saw a tattered landscape.

Kirishima: Man...they really tore this place up. 

Mina: Do you....do you think Midnight and the others are okay? 

Sato: They....they have to be fine. They're Pro Heroes. 

As Sato said that, there was a sense of dread in the air. The silence in the forest gave no comfort to the students who began to grow anxious. Morbius looked around the tattered landscape with a somber look on his face. Suddenly, he picked up a faint scent. 

Morbius: I.....I'm picking up a nearby scent. 

Yaoyorozu: Then let's hurry. They may need medical attention. 

Morbius followed the scent with Yaoyorozu and the other students following him. But when they reached the source of the scent, they were greeted by a horrifying sight. They were met with the sight of the lifeless bodies of many Pro Heroes. Morbius was quick to see Majestic's body among the Pro Heroes. 

Morbius: Majestic.....

Yaoyorozu: This....this.....

As Yaoyorozu struggled to comprehend what they were seeing, the other students quickly spotted the body of Midnight. Immediately, the other students rushed to Midnight, hoping that she was okay. 

Yaoyorozu: Please....say something....

Kirishima: She's....how.....

Sato: She....she was fine....you guys heard her.....

As the gravity of the situation began to dawn on them, many of the students broke down into tears. Morbius showed no visible reaction. He could tell that Midnight like the other Heroes had been dead for some time. 

Kirishima: Wake up! Say something! Miss Midnight please!

Mina: You can't be gone!

Kirishima: This isn't funny! Get up and tell us what to do! Please!

At this point, Morbius stepped forward to Mina and Kirishima. 

Morbius: Mina....Kirishima....she's gone....

Kirishima: N...no! She can't be gone! She can't be.....

Morbius: I can't hear a heartbeat from her. I....I can't be a heartbeat from any of them. They....they're all gone. 

Morbius then glanced over to Yaoyorozu who was devastated by this sight. He began walking over to her, but he suddenly picks up another scent. He glances over to see a wounded Villain looting the bodies of one of the dead Pro Heroes. Without hesitation, Morbius runs up to the Villain and grabs him by the neck. 

Villain: W...what the fuck?! What the fuck do you think you're doing?! I called this Pro Hero's corpse! You go find another! 

Morbius: You....you are scum! These Heroes gave their lives to protect the innocent and you would loot their corpses like a vulture!

Villain: Those Pro Heroes got it coming! That Midnight bitch got a few good licks in before we took her out! I only wished she stayed long enough for me to have a little fun.....

Hearing this deeply angered Morbius as he threw the Villain against a tree. The Villain coughed as he struggled to get up. Morbius then walked up to the Villain and grabbed him by the throat. 

Morbius: You....you are the lowest form of scum! I should drain you of your blood and use your clothes as a dinner cloth! 

Villain: W...wait! You can't do that! You're a Hero! Heroes don't.....

Morbius: You and your ilk killed many Heroes and caused the deaths of thousands of innocent people! You loot the bodies of slain Pro Heroes and you ask for mercy?! 

As Morbius said this, he began to feel his bloodlust kicking in as he saw the blood pulsing in the Villain's neck. Morbius was tempted to give in to his bloodlust and feast on the Villain's blood. But as he was about to give in to his bloodlust, Yaoyorozu approached Morbius and hugged him. This snapped Morbius out of his bloodlust and Yaoyorozu hugged him. Morbius could hear Yaoyorozu weeping. He looked at the terrified Villain with fury in his eyes. But despite this, Morbius could not bring himself to kill the Villain. He simply choked the Villain out and dropped him. Morbius then dropped to his knees. 

Yaoyorozu: Michael....I....I.....

Without saying a word, Morbius turned around and hugged Yaoyorozu tightly. The two Heroes in training wept into each other's arms as the other students gathered around them. 

Mineta: It...it feels like a nightmare. This can't possibly be happening.....

As Mineta said that, a feeling of despair was felt among the entire group of students. After a moment, Morbius got up and wiped away the tears from his face. He took a moment to catch his breath and turned to Yaoyorozu and the other students. 

Morbius: Midnight and the other Pro Heroes gave their lives here. There's....there's nothing we can do about that. But they gave their lives believing that we....that we would be able to carry on the fight. To that end......we must honor that. We....we cannot let their deaths be in vain. We....we still have work to do. But I promise that every Villain will answer to this.....

With that, Morbius and the other students took a moment to gather their bearings. In the face of this tragedy, Morbius and the others refused to let despair drag them down. But what none of them realized was that this was not the end, but the beginning of something far more terrible. And in the days to come, truths would be uncovered that would further weaken the foundations of Hero Society and cause the public to further lose faith in Heroes.
