Dillon watches Summer walk aimlessly around the land near the ranch house. Sometimes, the sticks in her hand are pointing out straight, and sometimes, they seem to pull towards each other a little. It's weird and more like witchcraft than anything else. "What is she doing?" Dillon asks Becky.
"She is looking for water. An underground spring or river. Watch the sticks; when they tap together, there will be water under her feet."
"Seriously? Do you honestly believe that? Why don't we just get a surveyor out? He can find an underground spring with specially designed tools and he will be bang on the money."
"Why would we do that? We have Summer and her sticks. She is always bang on the money," Becky asks, looking at Dillon as if she is insane. Right now Dillon thinks she is the only one that is not insane. They are walking behind a woman holding up two sticks for goodness sake. "Right here!" Summer suddenly calls out. When Dillon looks over at her she sees the sticks are now touching and forming a V. She suspects Summer has just moved the sticks together. But, everyone else seems to believe her. Becky cheers and Axel rushes off to his truck, then backs it up to where Summer is pointing. He sets it up and then starts drilling. He pulls up endless mounds of dusty dry dirt that yield no indication of water, and Dillon starts to feel a little bad for Summer. She had been so sure there was water under there.
But, Becky and now a few of Austin's men who have come to watch don't look concerned at all, and Summer is grinning. Dillon can't see this ending well. There is suddenly a loud grinding sound, and the drill starts to strain; she suspects it's hit a layer of rock. That will at least put an end to this whole thing. But, all Axel does is flip a switch on the side of the drill and up the power while everyone continues to watch. Then, without warning, a massive cylinder of water bursts up, shooting at least fifty meters into the air and raining down like a thunderstorm, leaving them drenched in seconds. Summy starts laughing and puts her hands out, trying to catch the water droplets. While the men drop their tools and start dancing in the rain like children. Becky screams excitedly and grabs Dillons, pulling her closer to the water and jumping around while she laughs. Becky's excitement is contagious and Dillon can't remember the last time she just let go and acted like a kid, dancing in the rain. So she, too, starts laughing, letting go of all her problems as she dances in the cool water. She had been wrong about Summer, so in her celebration, she grabs Summer and hugs her; Becky does the same before they continue twirling in the rain.
Becky suddenly breaks away from her and runs off; Dillon watches her run toward Louis, who has just arrived and jumps into his arms. He catches her and spins her around as they both laugh. They are very much in love. Dillon feels like she is being watched so she turns her head and sees Austin. He is leaning on the hood of his truck, cigarette between his fingers and a fond smile on his lips as he watches her. Drenched, she smiles back then leaves the rain and walks up to him. He keeps his eyes on her, uncrossing his ankles and opening his legs as she gets closer. So she slips between his open legs and wraps her wet arms around him, looking up at him. At first, all she can see is his thick beard under his chin, but then he tips his head and smiles down at her; it gives her butterflies.
"Havin' fun, little darlin'?" he hums. "Life shouldn't be serious all the time, right?" she whispers, smiling too. "Right," he hums again and leans down, pressing his lips to her forehead. "You are beautiful," he mumbles into her skin and those butterflies in her stomach go into overdrive. "I am headed to the heifers; I presume you would like to come along? Coddle those cattle of mine," he says lifting his head and looking down at her. "I would," she whispers stretching her neck and hoping he will kiss her. He does. He cups her cheeks gently and dips his head, pressing their lips together and pushing his tongue into her mouth. Dillon's head spins and she melts into him. Fuck, he is a good kisser, she could kiss him all dam day.
