Ch 153:
The camera seemed determined, capturing Yoo Yeon-seo and Shin Ye-won whenever it could, but the expected reactions didn't come. Instead, it was Shin Ye-won's awkward demeanor that drew another explosive response.
Yoo Yeon-seo received the Popularity Award and, as everyone predicted, also won the Best Actor Award in the drama category. When he stepped on stage to accept his trophy, he briefly scanned the audience.
"First of all, it was an honor to meet the 'Guksae' team. You all worked hard. And... there are many people I need to thank, but it wouldn't be appropriate to list them all here."
In the middle of his acceptance speech, a memory from the past suddenly surfaced. The Rookie Award that Lee Hee-seo once received had long passed. All he had done back then was watch Jin Soo-ho's back from the audience.
But now, he stood on stage, holding the Best Actor Award she had once won.
'This feels strange...'
It must have been due to synchronized memories. "I" had always been attached to my biological mother.
"The people I want to thank are everyone who reached out to congratulate me after hearing the news."
Due to his height, the microphone was too low. As he bent slightly to speak, his bangs fell forward messily, but even that looked picturesque. The audience let out murmurs of admiration as they caught a glimpse of Yoo Yeon-seo's eyes sparkling under the lights.
"So, if you'd like me to thank you, please feel free to reach out."
His joke drew laughter from the audience.
"I will continue to grow as an actor. Thank you."
He concluded his speech concisely. After all, this wouldn't be the last.
After the ceremony, the winners gathered for a group photo. Then, they left the venue to join the 'Guksae' team for an afterparty. Director Goo, Kim Chan-hwi, and Park Hee-jin won the Directing, Supporting Actor, and Rookie Awards, respectively, in addition to the Art Award.
"Why didn't I get one?"
"You've already received plenty."
"Still... it's embarrassing to be the only one empty-handed."
Min Joo-kyung, who had been a nominee for Best Screenplay, unfortunately didn't win. Shin Ye-won raised her glass toward her.
"Writer, I didn't win either. Cheers!"
"Oh my, that's true. Why didn't they give you one? You definitely deserved it."
"The competition was too strong."
If Yoo Yeon-seo had gone up against actors in their 30s or 40s, Shin Ye-won faced different circumstances. The Best Actress Award went to a middle-aged actress who, although her show's ratings were low, had delivered an impeccable performance and production quality.
"And I've already won plenty of awards before."
"Wow..."
At that, everyone on the 'Guksae' team, except Yoo Yeon-seo, marveled and buzzed with admiration for Shin Ye-won.
"By the way, what were you two whispering about earlier?"
"Right!"
"My friends are going crazy, asking me to find out what you were saying."
"Same here."
The 'Guksae' team's attention shifted to Yoo Yeon-seo and Shin Ye-won, especially Min Joo-kyung, whose eyes sparkled with curiosity.
