Ch 205:
The writer's name was unfamiliar. Below it was a Post-it note with a message that said it was the synopsis from a rookie writer who joined after the preview of "Just," a film related to the project.
Is it written by Cha Yun-ho? He's doing a great job. Then again, if he's been summoned by his grandfather to give lectures on the entertainment industry, he must have been good at it from the start. He turned the page.
A quick scan showed that it was about a detective, a disciple of a first-generation profiler, who, in order to catch a serial killer, explores the case and human relationships that arise from finding the child of the serial killer mimicked by the copycat criminal.
The role suggested to Yoo Yeon-seo was the male lead, the son of the serial killer who had studied criminal psychology and was a rookie police officer.
"Police role, a bit overlapping with Snake?..."
Actually, it didn't matter whether it overlapped or not. He never cared about overlapping images when choosing a role; he simply chose based on what drew his interest.
Moreover, "Snake" was about drug investigations, while "Collective Punishment" dealt with murder crimes. There were quite a few investigative dramas featuring profilers and serial killers, but this one seemed to focus more on the direct and indirect victims rather than the perpetrators and those who catch them. It centered on the victims, their families, and the families of the perpetrators.
Thinking about it, the situation he was experiencing seemed oddly similar.
"Coincidences like this are something."
Yoo Yeon-seo recalled Park Sun-woo's face from earlier in the day. He tapped the synopsis with his index finger and pondered.
"How will the plot flow?"
What he focused on in such scenarios was the absence of the glorification of the perpetrator. He didn't like works that included rationalizations like "our family was struggling, so I had no choice but to become a criminal" or that gave backstories to villains.
The synopsis was all he had for now, and the script wasn't finished yet. Though a rookie writer might be asked for revisions from the production company and investors, he was reluctant to interfere too much.
(Yes, Director.)
"Have you got Cha Yun-ho's contact information, the writer of 'Collective Punishment'?"
(Kim Ye-jin? Yes, I have it.)
Cha Yun-ho answered smoothly. It seemed he had memorized everything in case Yoo Yeon-seo asked. Yoo Yeon-seo smiled pleasantly.
"Set up a meeting. I'd like to talk directly."
(Okay, understood. When should we schedule it?)
After setting a date and ending the call, he set aside the synopsis for "Collective Punishment" and browsed through other synopses.
Yoo Eun-ho saw his younger brother like this and smiled faintly before carefully getting up from his seat. Since he was so focused, he didn't notice that his older brother had quietly gone into his room until later.
----
While he was reviewing the script, everyone, both online and offline, was buzzing about Yoo Yeon-seo. This was due to a post that made one representative shout, saying they should have given time to distribute the press release.
Y__Yeonseo
Hello, this is Yoo Yeon-seo. How have you been? I've been doing well.
The post started rather nonchalantly and was short. However, it included recent photos and brief updates about the much-discussed facts.
