Aurora awoke, her heart pounding in her chest. Her eyes fluttered open, and she quickly sat up, taking in her surroundings with anger. The dimly lit room was thick with the musty smell of old wood and the faint scent of decay. Her gaze landed on Elijah, who stood by her coffin, holding a gleaming dagger. The sharp metal caught the flickering light from the nearby candle, casting eerie shadows on the walls.
"Elijah?" she rasped, her voice hoarse from disuse. She struggled to push aside the disorientation that clung to her like cobwebs.
Aurora's heart sank. "How long have I been daggered?" The thought that Klaus might have left her in that cursed state for years filled her with dread.
Elijah's gaze remained averted. "Not long. But that's not why I undaggered you." He extended a blood bag towards her. "Nicklaus and I have arranged a dinner with the Salvatore's. We're hoping for a peaceful agreement. Be ready by 7 p.m. sharp. And please, try to refrain from arguing with Niklaus."
Before Aurora could respond, Elijah turned and walked out, leaving her alone in the dim room. She clambered out of the coffin, her limbs stiff from disuse, and grabbed her phone from the floor. It buzzed with a flurry of missed calls. She dialled Bonnie, and the witch answered on the first ring, her voice laced with relief and concern.
"Aurora? Is that really you? We've been searching everywhere! Are you okay?" Bonnie's voice cracked with worry.
Aurora managed a faint smile, though it felt more like a grimace. "I'm okay. Klaus had me daggered, but i guess i have been daggered for just a couple of weeks. I'm supposed to go to this dinner with my brothers and the Salvatore's. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll let everyone know you're alive. We've been so worried!" Bonnie chuckled nervously, trying to lighten the mood. "No tragic endings for you today, it seems."
Aurora heard Klaus's demanding voice calling for her from the hallway. "I have to go, Bonnie," she said quickly before hanging up.
She descended the stairs, the wooden steps creaking under her weight. Klaus was waiting in the grand hall, his presence imposing. Aurora strode over to him, her anger bubbling to the surface. Without warning, she swung her fist and landed a solid punch to his face.
Klaus staggered back, but his expression remained one of sardonic amusement. "Alright, I admit I deserved that," he said, rubbing his jaw. "But I did it to protect you."
With a flick of her wrist, Aurora sent Klaus crashing into the glass window. She went to hit him again but he caught her wrist.
"Enough, Aurora," Elijah's voice cut through the tension with calm authority. Aurora, seething with frustration, pulled away from Klaus and stormed up the stairs.
As the clock neared 7 p.m., Aurora descended the stairs again, this time dressed in a sleek, black dress. Her makeup was impeccably applied, her blonde hair styled into soft curls that framed her face.
Elijah was already in the foyer, greeting their guests. When Aurora saw Damon first, she crossed the room and wrapped her arms around him in a warm embrace. "I'm glad you're okay, Rory," Damon whispered as she pulled away. Stefan nodded in acknowledgement, and Aurora returned the gesture with a small smile.
As they moved towards the dining area, Aurora shot a glare look at Klaus, who greeted her with a smirk. "You look lovely as always, sister," he said, his voice dripping with false sweetness.
