Over the last couple of days, my family, and Ash, had been overly protective, and I was getting tired of it.
I needed air. I needed space. More than anything, I wanted to see my friends. I missed Davina, missed having a conversation that didn't involve my health or whether I'd eaten. And they weren't going to stop me.
I pushed off the bed and threw on something comfortable, skinny jeans tucked into black boots, a long flowing shirt, and a few pieces of jewellery. My stomach was still slim, barely changed. I knew that would shift soon, but for now, I could still wear what I wanted without drawing suspicion.
Skipping steps on the way down, I headed straight for the front door. But as I pulled it open, I nearly crashed into someone.
A familiar blonde stood on the other side, arms crossed, expression unreadable.
"Rebekah?"
Before I could say anything else, she sped forward and crushed me in a hug, nearly knocking me off balance.
"My god, Aurora," she muttered into my shoulder, pulling back to look me over. "You leave for a month, and next thing I hear, you're pregnant? With twins, no less? What the bloody hell were you thinking?"
Her voice was sharp, but I could see it in her eyes, beneath the frustration, she was worried. Genuinely.
"It's good to see you too, Bex," I replied, trying to sound amused. "But what are you doing here? Elijah said you didn't care. That you wanted to stay far away."
She scoffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "Don't be daft. Of course I care, you're carrying my little nieces or nephews. And so is that werewolf girl, apparently. I just didn't want to be around Nicklaus. You know how it goes: the second I set foot here, I get roped into their latest lunatic plan."
Fair enough. I understood her reasoning, even if part of me wished she'd shown up sooner. Still, I wasn't going to dwell on it.
Rebekah marched into the house like she owned it, already yelling about how Elijah wasn't answering her calls and hurling creative insults at Klaus. That gave me the perfect window to slip out unnoticed.

The compound buzzed with activity. Vampires fed from willing humans, healing and compelling them. A system, yes, but one that worked. It kept peace in the Quarter, and I didn't have an issue with it, so no harm done.
I spotted Marcel standing above it all, watching from the upper balcony like a king surveying his court.
He didn't know I was back. As far as he was concerned, I was still being kept hidden away by the witches.
A slow smile crept across my face as I headed up the stairs toward him. "I'm back" I slightly extended my words for dramatic effect and he smiled as soon as he heard my voice.
A smirk still present on his face, "You scared me with your cryptic messages. What happened with the witches?" I hesitated for a moment, i knew i could trust Marcel, but for now i couldn't tell him i just couldn't
"They just wanted a favour thats all."
