Ash met me just outside the Mikaelson mansion, the soft rumble of the car engine filling the silence between us. He took my bags without a word, loading them into the trunk while I scrolled through my phone, sorting out the final details for the house in New Orleans. I'd made Marcel promise to hold it for me. No one else was getting that spot. It was perfect. Secluded, charming, and close enough to the French Quarter that I wouldn't feel completely cut off from the world.
Marcel had been more than happy to help. He said it was good to have me back, he needed support in the Quarter, and truthfully, I needed him too. I also had something important to bring up... about Davina.
Yes, I'd kept in contact with her, called her nearly every week. But even through the phone, I could tell something felt off. I was worried.
"Ready to go?" Ash asked, his voice low and smooth as he shut the trunk with a soft thud. He walked around the car toward me, his presence grounding me like always. When he reached me, he gently cupped my face in his hands.
I couldn't help the smile that bloomed across my lips. It was like all the noise in my head suddenly quieted.
Ash pulled open the door, teasingly he spoke, "After you Ms Mikaelson." I couldn't help the smile so i rolled my eyes chuckling softly. "Wow, such a gentlemen." He nodded his head before getting into the car settling in and clipping his seat belt. We looked at each other from our seats as he began to drive. "I love you." I smiled at his mini confession.
"I love you too."

Getting out of the car grabbing the house keys and unlocking the front door the house was beautiful and i couldn't thank Marcel enough for keeping it on hold for me.
"How'd you like it?" I heard a familiar voice i turned around and i saw Marcel with his wide smile i couldn't help but smile back he held his arms out for a hug and i gladly gave him one. I wrapped my arms around him.
"I missed you so much Aurora." I laughed but nodded into his shoulder. "I missed you too."
He pulled back, keeping his hands on my shoulders "You look good," he said, "Well the same... but good. Happier."
I smiled,"Trying to be."
Ash came up behind me, carrying in the last of the bags. Marcel gave him a respectful nod, and surprisingly, Ash returned it without hesitation. There was still a bit of tension, there always would be when these two tried to share space, but it was progress.
"Thanks for holding onto the place," I said,"It's perfect."
Marcel grinned, proud. "Well, you've got history here. And I had a feeling you'd come back eventually. You've always loved this city."
I walked deeper into the house. "Feels like I never left."
Marcel's smile faded just slightly. "Some things have changed, though. The Quarter's not as quiet as it used to be. And well, Davina."
He trailed off, and I turned sharply to face him. "What about Davina?"
He hesitated, then sighed. "That night replays in her head, she has nightmares, and she calls out to her mother in her sleep."
My stomach tightened. "Her mother? Why her mother." Marcel held up a hand signalling quiet.
"Let me continue, i asked her about this and she told me she wasn't dreaming of her mother. She was dreaming of the night of the harvest and she was calling you."
I sighed. "I'll talk to her."
Marcel clapped his hands together, forcing a lighter tone. "For now, welcome home. The Quarter missed you."
