SAME NIGHT

SHANE'S P.O.V

My father never raised me to be oblivious to the things happening around me, and for that, I'm grateful. So, from the moment one of the firefighters told me that someone had allegedly started the fire, I knew something was wrong.

At first when her bank account was hacked the tech guy told me that there was no way this was done by a regular scammer because whoever did it left no trace behind them so it was hard to find out who did it. I didn't dwell much on it, but after what happened yesterday, I couldn't help but wonder if someone was after her. I'm going to ask her about it because if someone is after her, I might be caught in the midst of it being that she is staying with me for a few days.

Currently, I'm pacing the emergency room at the Spanish Town Hospital because it's been a few hours since they wheeled Anaya away on a stretcher. I had asked her if she wanted me to call someone, but she said she didn't want to burden anyone with any more of her troubles. Getting frustrated at the long wait, I called one of my cousins who was a doctor working here.

"Hey Shanie, what's up?" Miranda's voice came through the phone.

"It's Shane Miranda," I told her for the millionth time.

She laughed and then asked me why I was calling.

"I came here a few hours ago with a friend of mine, and I'm yet to hear anything about her. Her name is Anaya Brown. " I told her, getting straight to the point.

"Okay, hold on, let me ask around," She says, putting the phone on hold.

"Shane, you still there?" She asked after a couple of minutes.

"Yes, I am," I answered immediately.

But the information she gave me made my mouth fell open in shock that it took a while for me to answer her.

"Did you hear what I said?" She asked after not receiving an answer.

"Uhh, yes. Can I see her?" I proceeded to ask.

"Yes," She answered, then gave me the directions to where I could find Anaya.

Ending the call, I took a huge sigh before walking off.

ANAYA'S P.O.V.

SUNDAY, MARCH 25

I've been staring at the white walls for the past hour, trying to process the events of what had happened since Friday. My tears were never-ending as I was so confused about everything. I've been trying to figure out how I was gonna move on from this, but I always came up blank, and it was honestly getting frustrating. A small cry caught my attention, which made the events from last night resurface.

FLASHBACK

"Why do I need an ambulance?" I asked, panicking.

"Because Miss Brown, it seems you have had a cryptic pregnancy, and you're about to go into labor." She rushed out.

Before I could process what was just said to me, two porters were already helping me into a wheelchair and wheeling me towards the ambulance.

"I came here with someone. Please let the doctor tell him where I'm going." I begged the porter who was assisting me into the ambulance.
