As they finally went to bed, Isy held Adele tightly in her arms. The room was quiet, and the night had grown late. Adele rested her head on Isy's chest, feeling the rhythm of her heartbeat against her cheek.
"Isy?" Adele's voice trembled as she spoke, barely more than a whisper.
"Yes, my love?" Isy responded gently, sensing the distress in Adele's tone.
Tears began to flow freely from Adele's eyes. "Everything hurts so much... I don't want to keep going like this. I can't bear it anymore," she said, her voice breaking with every word.
"What do you mean, you can't bear it anymore?" Isy asked, her voice filled with concern and fear.
"Every time I start to feel even a little bit happy, something always happens. I can't handle the constant cycle of pain, Isy. I feel so lost," Adele replied, her words coming out choked and raw.
Isy's heart ached deeply as she tried to understand the depth of Adele's suffering. "Please, talk to me. What exactly are you feeling right now?"
Adele hesitated, her voice barely audible. "Sometimes, I wish I had jumped off that bridge that night. I think it would have been easier than facing all this constant pain."
Isy's heart shattered at Adele's words. She cupped Adele's face tenderly, her own tears mingling with Adele's. "Please don't say that. You have so much to live for, including your beautiful 9-year-old son who needs you."
"I know, and I know I have you, but it feels like no matter how hard I try, I'm always dragged back into this darkness. Why does this keep happening to me?" Adele's voice was filled with deep sadness and frustration.
"There are many women who have faced similar pain," Isy said softly, trying to offer some solace. "But that doesn't make it any less real or difficult."
Adele shook her head, her tears continuing to flow. "Sometimes, I just want to numb everything. I think about getting drunk just to stop feeling all this pain."
The thought of Adele turning to such desperate measures broke Isy's heart even further. She wrapped her arms around Adele, pulling her close. "No, Adele, please don't. That will only make things worse. You're already hurting so much, and making those choices could lead to more regret and deeper pain."
"But the pain is relentless. It feels like every second, there's a knife stabbing me inside, and it just burns," Adele said, her voice filled with agony.
"Do you want me to apply the ointment the doctor gave us? It might help relieve some of the physical pain," Isy suggested, her voice gentle and loving.
Adele nodded weakly. "Yes, please."
Isy kissed Adele's forehead softly before getting up to retrieve the ointment. When she returned, she helped Adele remove her clothing from the lower half of her body, then carefully applied the cream. "Would you prefer to stay in bed? It might be more comfortable."
Adele nodded, and Isy took her time applying the ointment, trying to be as gentle as possible. She could feel Adele's body tense with each touch, and her heart ached seeing the bruising and tenderness between Adele's legs. "It's okay, baby. I'm here with you. Just breathe."
As Isy finished, Adele quickly dressed again, her movements hurried and shaky. Isy washed her hands and then climbed back into bed, sliding under the covers beside Adele. Adele immediately curled up against Isy, seeking comfort in her presence.
"Thank you," Adele said softly, her voice filled with a mix of sorrow and gratitude.
"I'm here, always," Isy replied, leaning in to place a tender kiss on Adele's lips.
