Ain noticed Jay was quieter than usual during their morning walk to class.
Finally, on Thursday afternoon, Ain decided to confront him. They say together at their usual spot in the school courtyard, under the large tree.
"Jay, you've been acting strange lately. Is something going on?"
Jay's eyes flicked toward her, but he quickly looked away, staring at the ground.
"There's something I need to tell you. My dad... he got a job offer in Seoul."
"What? In Seoul? When??"
"In two months. He wants to move the whole family there."
Seoul wasn't just a short trip away. It was hours from Busan and the thought of Jay leaving, of him being far from her.
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know, Ain.. I want to stay here, with you. But I don't know if I have a choice. My dad's already made plans."
"I don't want you to leave. But if you do... we'll figure it out, right? We'll make it work."
Jay took her hand.
"Of course.. we'll stay in touch. I'm not going to let this end, Ain."
