During lunch, Ain saw her best friend, Yuna, waiting for her at their usual spot under the big cherry blossom tree in the school courtyard.
"Alright, spill it! I heard you and Jay went on a date! Is it true?"
"Yeah.. we went to the arcade. It was really fun, but.. I don't know what it means."
"What do you mean, you don't know what it means? Did he ask you out on another date?"
"No, he hasn't mentioned anything yet. I just.. I don't know if he likes me or if we're just friends."
"Ain, guys don't usually go on dates with girls they don't like. Jay clearly likes you. Maybe he's just shy or unsure about how you feel."
"Maybe... I just wish I knew for sure."

Later that afternoon, Ain was walking through the crowded hallway when she overheard a conversation that made her heart skip a beat. A group of girls was gossiping at the lockers and Ain caught Jay's name.
"I heard Jay only asked Ain out because he lost a bet," one girl whispered.
Ain shocked.
"Yeah, that's what I heard too," another girl chimed in.
"He wouldn't normally go for someone like her."
Her thoughts were in turmoil as she rushed to the library, where Jay was waiting for their usual study session. She found him already seated, flipping through his notes.
"Ain, what's wrong?"
"I heard something... something that really bothered me. Jay, Is it true? Did you ask me out because of a bet??"
"No, Ain, of course not! I would never do that. I asked you out because I like you, not because of some stupid bet."
"Really??"
"Istg. I like spending time with you. Those rumours are just that—rumours. Please don't believe them."
But she still felt a twinge of doubt.
"Then, why didn't you tell me sooner??"
Jay looked down, a hint of embarrassment on his face.
"I guess.. I was scared you didn't feel the same way. I didn't want to ruin what we already had."
"I'm sorry for doubting you."
"It's okay. I get it. Just promise me that next time, you'll come to me first before believing any rumours, okay??"
"I promise."
